A small modification to my forecast that Trump can never win:

If the riots continue and there are widespread cases of violence and death, expect a shift to his side by almost 5%, which is significant. Progressives can endorse protest but not riots. Historically, the American society makes a distinction between both. If more riots continue, those in the suburbs will think that Trump and the police will give them protection and work to retain him in the White House.

SADLY, IN POLITICS, THE END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS IN THE STRUGGLE FOR POWER. VIRTUALLY ALL POLITICOS APPLY THIS STRATEGY IN THEIR QUEST TO SUCCEED IN ELECTORAL CONTESTATIONS OR STAY IN POWER.  I CONCUR WITH BROTHER TOYIN PROGRESSIVES SHOULD CONDEMN RIOTS  AND RIOTERS VOCIFEROUSLY. OVERALL, "MOST" RIOTERS AND ICONOCLASTS DON'T VOTE.

Anything can happen and it would not surprise me one bit if 45 wins again, with or without a continuous violence. I witnessed it four years ago and I have psyched myself to brace for another big surprise.

I got your point, though. It's the table-turning folktale model of the tortoise overdoing the shaming punishment meted out to his own father-in-law who stole the former's yams. Humanity hates what the Yoruba call "Àšejù." You can make your point without emitting heightened and protracted anxieties on the masses.

Honestly, my fingers are crossed!

There will be violence on the streets unless the incumbent is re-elected, says the incumbent under whom there is unprecedented violence on the streets.

i agree with toyin, except in his statement that americans distinguish between riots and protest.
those who oppose the protests will believe, do believe, the violence is part ofthe protest.
others, more liberal or leftist or progressive are indeed fearful that the republican exploitation of blowback will increase their numbers.
we have a little more than 2 months. a long long long time to hold our breaths

T  knows that, and that is why he sent in the forces and his “ tonton  macoute“  to foment more trouble.
He knows that the bigger the chaos the better for him. He may even encourage more police shootings of the unarmed.

You are looking at  the ruthlessness of Mobutu and Lukashenko and  the narcissism of  Bokassa, all rolled into one, this time around.
