the BRAIN"Is the conductor of the human orchestra" as one neuroscientist put it .our educational institutions we should look as constituting the brain of nigeria. if all is not well with the brain it might cause in some cases the body to destroy itself and so in medical school ,it said if you fail psychiatry you have failed every thing.!
research out put is the HARD CURRENCY of a country so we are shooting ourselves in the foot by saying to our academics, NO PAY NO WORK, because we lack understanding of what they do and how they work ,strike is is the strongest weapon of the academics but teaching is the least of what they do in the university.
ifw e can get the teaching calendar right and make the necessary investment in our academics by reason of pay packet, libraries, laboratories, workshops and research grants, there is an enormous amount of money to be made from INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS like fron CHINA,INDIA and USA. for amongst other reasons ,NOVEL EDUCATIONL EXPERIENCES
i ask the americans here in london why they study in london, they either say they do not like usa or it is too expensive. knowing the reputation nigerians have for academics out side the country then it stands to reason that our univerties are DIAMOND mines. we can provide affordable education to chinese, americans and indians because our overheads are cheaper but we areworld class.
on the subject of work, how do you describe isaac newton under an apple tree was he at work or at play in observing the famed fall of the apple? towards his theory of gravitation?, how do you describe albert einstein in a bus in transit observing a clock in a public place was he at work or play as here he discovered the special theory of relativity,? how do you describe augusius kekule in his dream observing a scorpion eating its tail and so the discovery of the benzene ring.? you cannot really tell when an academic is a work or when he is resting ,perhaps i think.
the university rests on a tripod of teaching, transformational entrepreneurial research for many and community service
thank you for signing into to law the students loan act but there are other bridges to cross like healthy and affordable accommodation for students.
i trust you would do a lot for the development of libraries ,laboraories and workshops
