The Nigerian Academics should perhaps help to bake the Natioanl cake before partaking in eating the National cake, like they say in soldiering, THE LEADER EATS LAST. Nigerian Academics are THOUGHT LEADERS so they should perhaps move away from making demands on the presidency and realign with the legislators and instead court the legislators as partners in progress
i once wrote that the national assembly is underutilised by Nigrians. it's supposed to be a 24/7/ 365 thing , The national assembly is underutilised as every other Mother is,the Palm tree and the smart phone. or when last did you seek advice from your mother, did you take to the advice? probably not, the palm tree has 1001 uses but for many it's just for palm oil. same with the smart phone.so many functions but for many its's just for text. calls and social media and photographs,
I am made to understand that politicians have no time to read but reading is fundamental to their jobs, and this is where the academic s could come in because they are paid to read and they read to get paid. Readers we are told become leaders. Reading is fundamental
for instance one is puzzled at the disclosure of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola minister of internal affairs' that up to recent Nigeria was still using the fire safety act of 1963!
Immediately your mind goes to the Faculties of Law, environmental design and technology in Nigerian universities you mean to say our professors or academic concerned are aware of these and they kept mum , teaching their students with the fire safety act of 1963 and watching the length and breadth of Nigeria going on fire including buildings within the university! where we expect best practice? what other obsolete laws need to be attended to by our academics and legislators'. then there is a need for entirely new laws to take the nation forward. or to further bake the national cake
