with the recent donation  to kings college  london by chief afe babalola   in addition to what i posted today on the philanthropist Ibadan man,Sanusi Adebisi Idikan,
and the uproar or criticisms raised in certain quarters including this platform ,  on Afe Babalolas Donation, i just thought beyond this platform  and other sites and social media maybe there should be a more focused approach as to what s happening to philanthropy in africa or why tings are not happening and possible ways forward
charity is a one off thing but philanthropy is sustained giving especially towards solving a problem.
in nigeria the first of a gathering of promoters of foundations was hlp at the instance of the obafemi awolowo foundation, with T.Y Danjuma chiarman, himsekf a promotr of a foundation
i have also witnessed charitable giving on this forum with regards to the surgical operation of the late forumite  Professor  ayo  olukotun as organised by professor Toyin    Falola hence on of the reasons i have chosen his name for the  centre
i used to have a blog by the title African chronicle of wealth and philanthropy so I  followed philanthropy in nigeria with an extra interest than the average nigerian but i think the academics in africa  especially should also    using   be interested in gifts, grants  scholarships and fellowships from the philanthropist foundations to research and to study the world and ways of the philanthropists
