Buhari Doesn’t Rule Nigeria. His Wife Confirms It

By Farooq A. Kperogi, Ph.D.
Twitter: @farooqkperogi

When I publicly voiced my concerns in 2018 that Muhammadu Buhari was too cognitively and physically ill to have the capacity to govern Nigeria and that the country was being ruled on his behalf by an unorganized and unelected gaggle of corrupt cronies and family members, some people didn’t believe me.

But his wife’s unprecedentedly stinging public censure of presidential spokesman Garba Shehu and Mamman Daura, Buhari’s nephew, on December 11, 2019 provides evidentiary grounding for what most of us have always known and said: that Buhari is too weighed down by dementia and physical infirmity to even control his immediate family, let alone rule a country of nearly 200 million people.
In my January 19, 2019 column titled “Buhari’s Physical and Mental Health is Now a National Emergency,” I noted the following:

“On November 23, 2018, for instance, I tweeted that a doctor who has met Buhari during a personal, non-medical visit told me he was troubled that Buhari appeared to evince tell-tale symptoms of dementia (of which Alzheimer's disease is a type), which is often characterized by repetitiveness, unawareness, mental deterioration, impaired memory, diminished quality of thought, slurred speech, and finally complete helplessness. That’s why neurologists call dementia ‘failure of the brain.’

“A friend whose dad has dementia and who has also met Buhari in the recent past had earlier told me Buhari reminded her of her dad whom she forced to retire, adding, sadly, that Buhari’s dementia is way worse than her dad’s is. She was, and still is, concerned that Nigeria has no president. She's right, and the evidence stares us every day. Buhari barely has any awareness of his existence, much less the requirements of being president…

“People around the president are intimately familiar with his considerably diminished sentience and his notoriously declining short-term memory. As a consequence, he is being taken advantage of by several people close to him. Aso Rock insiders say Buhari doesn't remember anything, so no one even obeys his instructions--if he gives any at all. The last person to see him gets him to do whatever they want. Someone from the Presidential Villa told me it’s precisely because of this fact that governors frequent the Villa several times in a week; they are in a race to be the last people to see the president before he takes decisions and signs off on them.

“If you think with Buhari as president Nigeria has a president, you should sue your brain for non-support; you're NOT thinking! We have a national emergency on our hands. Buhari appears infirm both in mind and in body. Without a doubt, other people are ruling on his behalf, and his own wife hinted at that when she said her husband’s presidency had been hijacked by a three-man cabal.”

Aisha also told TVC’s “Journalists’ Hangout” that she doesn’t have private conversations with her husband. “There is no pillow in the villa,” she said. “No, because we are always busy listening to one story or another. I think the people he puts in the cabinet, they should just sit up and do the needful. That is why it is not good to have godfatherism.”

A lot of people were flustered by the revelation that she has no access to her husband. But I am not. I actually hinted at that in my October 22, 2016 column titled “Aisha Buhari and the Evil Aso Rock Cabal.” Here’s what I wrote:

“This [her BBC Hausa interview chastising her husband’s government] can only mean that although Aisha is formally married to President Buhari, she is actually isolated from him. This is consistent with what I’ve heard from inside sources about the relationship between the first couple. Buhari is held hostage by an evil, sneaky, corrupt, vulturous, and conniving cabal that ensures that his wife doesn’t see him even in the ‘kitchen,’ the ‘living room,’or ‘the other room.’

“The BBC interview was Aisha’s vigorous ventilation of pent-up anguish against a cold, calculating, and corrupt cabal that has made Buhari a stranger to his own wife.”

And I had written about Aisha’s December 11 revelation that Garba Shehu and other Aso Rock media aides have no access to Buhari and take directives from Mamman Daura and other unelected Buhari cronies and family members.

In my August 26, 2017 column titled "Garba Shehu,Presidential Villa Rodents and Bad PR," I wrote the following, which Aisha just confirmed:

"First, it’s obvious that both Adesina and Shehu don’t have a robust, direct access to the president. Directives don’t seem to always come directly from the president to his media aides. It’s usually, it would appear, from the president to a tortuous labyrinth of surrogates before it gets to the media team. Most of the times, it’s actually influential people connected—or thought to be connected—to the president who dictate what the presidential media team says to the public.

"I recall an incident in late 2015 that left me in no doubt that the president’s media team members don’t enjoy the respect usually accorded to presidential spokespeople. I was having an argument with someone close to the Buhari presidency over something, and he suddenly said, 'I will tell the president’s media team to issue a statement to clarify this.' A few hours later, a statement was issued expressing the exact sentiments of my interlocutor who isn’t even officially a part of the government. That blew me away.

"So, basically, the presidential spokespeople are mere errand boys of Buhari’s shadowy surrogates and a motley crowd of official, semi-official, and unofficial power brokers who pull the levers of power in the presidency.

"No public relations person, however smart he might be, can function optimally in the kind of politically toxic and factious environment that the Buhari presidency exemplifies."

I warned Nigerians in the run-up to the 2019 election that if they voted APC, they were voting Mamman Daura and Abba Kyari, not Buhari who is barely aware of his own existence. People who thought I was merely being mischievous are now coming to terms with what I said.

For selfish reasons, Aisha won't reveal the true state of her husband’s mental and physical health, but she's opportunistically railing against someone who is taking orders from people who hold the real power. As they say, nature abhors a vacuum. If Buhari can’t exercise power, others will exercise it on his behalf and in his name.

If Nigeria weren’t the dysfunctional theater of the absurd that it is, the revelations from Aisha Buhari would be regarded as a national emergency.

The National Assembly would have constituted an independent team of medical experts to examine the state of Buhari’s physical and mental state. If he is found to have dementia, as I strongly suspect he does, he should be declared incapacitated and removed from office. That’s what Section 137 (c) of our constitution requires.

Well, is Buhari's "true ... mental and physical health" the key question of the day, or,  is it (or, should it be), as has been already publicly alleged, whether the "Buhari" currently in Aso Rock today is really Buhari? If it is true (and, I grant that the report might be false) that his wife has no physical proximity to the "Buhari" currently in Aso Rock, is the wife, therefore, in a position to tell if this "Buhari" in Aso Rock is her husband?

Torah: thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour

May the Lord have mercy on Kperogi’s soul if indeed that is what Kperogi is doing (bearing false witness against presidential Brother and neighbour Muhammadu Buhari.

Things should be called and called out by their proper names :  Do we have to read some more Buhari-phobia and hatred of Brother Buhari by one Don Farooq Kperogi on steroids, steroids on overdrive and once again dear friends, a very agitated Kperogi doing his overtime for the pittance he is or is not being rewarded or recompensed with for this his outrageous latest epistolary outrage posted on what he calls his “ column”, his column in his unending series, this latest like some of his earlier diatribes once again to be found, as he says, “on the back page of the Nigerian Tribune on Saturday”. And indeed, where else would they tolerate his trademark hyperbolic bombast and his crass highfalutin iconoclastic verbiage, if not “on the back page of the Nigerian Tribune on Saturday”?

There’s always the back page, even the back pages or  the toilet tissue to be contrasted with the more revolutionary extreme right-wing “Front page”. The back page is of course the behind, the buttocks, anal crevice from which the excrement, faeces once dropped are usually pasted. The back page/ toilet tissue  as you know cleans the backside of the anal character, one of whose characteristics is a fastidious obsession with cleanliness, not necessarily the cleanliness that is next to Godliness…

Lacking self-respect is one thing, writing the way that Kperogi does so consistently, about Brother Buhari, the President of Nigeria, is something else, is not praiseworthy.

How dare you write about the President of Nigeria in such lowly, denigrated terms?

In the final analysis, the  pompous “evidentiary grounding” which is only presumed and of which Kperogi boasts in sum total only amounts to conjecture and premature or unsubstantiated conclusions based on hearsay, rumour, rumours and unconfirmed rumours from the usual rumour mill and of course Kperogi’s own malicious wishful thinking, the figments of his own overheated, lurid & putrid imagination ( from Kperogi’s febrile, fertile, overheated brain) and the putrefaction of some other anti-Buhari imagination/s.

To know x, x must be true.

I challenge anyone to scour Kperogi’s latest prevarications do a close textual anal-ysis of the crap - just as I have done most carefully, and to answer the question:

Where is the evidence that could even be admissible or be able to stand on one leg in a court of law?

ON the other hand, there is usually no smoke without fire. All of the above is not gainsaying what occurred in the latter part of Reagan's presidency. To all intents and purposes, a reliable medical assessment would settle the score.

Is "conundrum" the only philosophical and praxis challenge of the day, or is an additional challenge of the day, what appears to have become the tranquilization (probably through economic penury) of a Nigerian populace that used to be able to assert itself, ask pertinent questions of its political leaders (despite the backdrop of ethno-religious divisions), and call a spade a spade? Calling a spade, a spade is becoming or has become, an endangered species as we succumb, consciously and unconsciously, to the expediency of political correctness (in both its Nigerian and Diasporic contexts) or to the New Age Double-Consciousness malaise of the post-colonial African-Diasporic population. That is to say, W.E.B. DuBois’ famous Double Consciousness doctrine does not apply only to the African descendants whose forebears were brutally uprooted and transplanted to the New World and then subjected to a hegemonic and culturally-subjugating educational regime, that doctrine also applies to both contemporary voluntary African migrants and to the descendants of Africans who had voluntarily migrated to the New World in the earliest phases of the post-colonial era.

Forgive me for that brief historical digression, but in momentarily getting back to the never-ending Nigerian conundrum, it needs to be also noted that even during the military interregna of Nigeria’s political history, public affairs journalism was generally vibrant and interrogative as opposed to the slavishness that contemporaneously and generally dominates the day, with due and notable courageous exceptions.

Well, I also know that Nigeria's civic political culture is one that, generally-speaking, tends to speak in glorious terms about the powers-that-be of the present moment (though the people will endlessly complain about them in omnipresent beer parlors), but instantly jumps onto the streets in condemnation when the same regime is dislodged either by the bullet or by the ballot-box though the latter is becoming more of a dream than a tool for a realistic expression of political will. Political sycophancy Is, of course, to be naturally expected when the political powers-that-be constitute the main providers of jobs and other means of individual-level economic wellbeing—as opposed to political environments whereby the private sector is the main provider of life’s sustenance and opportunities. In blunt terms, money/political power speaks! And, political power (through its plethora of machineries) speaks even more because political power eventually determines the fate of economic power. While I concede that by virtue of our African traditional cultural upbringing, we ought to respect our elders and, by implication, our political leaders, when such political leaders evolve to become terrors of humankind and agent provocateurs of neo-colonialism (as opposed to upholders of justice and fair play for humankind), should we still remain in obedience or should we seek for and canvas for a drastic change in the structures, foundational or governing principles, rules of engagement, values and memberships of the extant political systems?

It is one of the ten commandments: thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour

Once again, we are called upon to hit the proverbial nail on its head – the head of professor gossipmonger, the talebearer, a professional the talebearer. Some people do it for a living. In Islam this type of backbiting is referred to as “eating your brother’s flesh”. Sadly, it is the type of gossip that is the palm oil of that type of big grammar journalese, the kind of gossip on which such unsubstantiated “evidence” and other ad hominem thrive as “journalism” and, sadly, some of them indeed profess to be “professor of journalism”, people without substance.

More bombast than substance. May God save their students!

Gossip is a much stronger word than rumour which The Devil’s Dictionary appropriately defines ( Americanised spelling) , thus :

 http://www.thedevilsdictionary.com/?r=#RUMO_

RUMOR, n. A favorite weapon of the assassins of character.

Sharp, irresistible by mail or shield,

By guard unparried as by flight unstayed,

O serviceable Rumor, let me wield

Against my enemy no other blade.

His be the terror of a foe unseen,

His the inutile hand upon the hilt,

And mine the deadly tongue, long, slender, keen,

Hinting a rumor of some ancient guilt.

So shall I slay the wretch without a blow,

Spare me to celebrate his overthrow,

And nurse my valor for another foe.

—Joel Buxter

Gossip:

“a doctor who has met Buhari during a personal, non-medical visit told me…” (nameless /unnamed doctor)

“A friend whose dad has dementia and who has also met Buhari in the recent past had earlier told me…” (another suitably unidentified “friend”, it could have even been someone/ an evil spirit impersonating lucifer)

A concise epithet made famous by Spiro Agnew and henceforth known as   “the barnyard epithet” is the all-purpose expletive, bullshit , of the type that Kperogi usually composes over there in Georgia.

It’s a big problem because irresponsible journalism can mislead whole nations, especially nations for whom the printed word is god/ divine/revelation, most especially when the printed word is in big grammar English...

You mean the word 'conundrum' generated this much disquisition?  Even more than the original column?  I was actually agreeing with your position that the column generated a conundrum just as your last paragraph implies.

Questions for the columnist who wrote the original state of Buhari's health before the 2019 eletction:

If his alarm were true why did he not contradict Buhari's claim that he campaigned through all the 36 states of the federation?  How could an ill man pull that true ( some average fit men cannot even manage it.)

Could the fact Aisha Buhari say some functionaries do what they have not been asked to mean the incumbent is not fit that is why they did that?  Why would she complain if she knew this is the actual reality given the state of health of her husband?

Is this the same Buhari who just returned from a publicized tour abroad?  How could he manage this?  We know the Edo State governor went with him.  How come he us not aware of in close proximity what is easily visible to Farooq Kperogi in far away America?

On reading the article beneath, my granddaughter remarked that the author must be suffering from what psychologists call Dunning-Krüger effect, defined as a cognitive bias in which a person mistakenly asses his/her cognitive ability greater than it is. She says, it is related to the cognitive bias of illusory superiority that originates from the inability of a person to recognize his/her lack of ability. Without the self-awareness of meta-cognition a person cannot objectively evaluate his/her competence or incompetence. She concluded that the Associate Professor of English is not competent to diagnose President Mohammadu Buhari for any medical ailment. I understand her to mean that the Associated Professor of English is demented attention-seeking person who has, fraudulently, appropriated to himself the role of a medical doctor to determine the condition of health of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Even if I am neither a psychiatrist nor a psychologist, books on psychiatry and psychology which I have read indicate that there are obvious signs of schizophrenia in the write-up. The symptoms of schizophrenia psychologists/psychiatrists say include, hallucinations - hearing or seeing things that do not exist; and delusions - believing in things that are untrue. Hallucinations and delusions are often referred to as psychotic symptoms or symptoms of psychosis. Psychologists and psychiatrists say that psychosis is when somebody is unable to distinguish between reality and his/her imagination.

It is hallucinatory to aver "in 2018 that Muhammadu Buhari was too cognitively and physically ill to have the capacity to govern Nigeria." Therefore, some of us disassociated ourselves from the averment of the Associated Professor of Journalism whom we regard as a Schizotypal person who believes in things that most normal people in this world don't believe such as having extrasensory powers
and that he is able to read the minds of other people. The hallucinating  and Associate Professor of quack medicine asserted that "Buhari is too weighed down by dementia and physical infirmity to even control his immediate family, let alone rule a country of nearly 200 million people." In which hospital did the quack medical professor of medicine perform medical examination on President Muhammadu Buhari? ".... I tweeted that a doctor who has met Buhari during a personal, non-medical visit told me he was troubled that Buhari appeared to evince tell-tale symptoms of dementia." My observation on the above quoted is that a doctor imagined by the Associate professor has told him that Buhari appeared to evince tell-tale symptoms of dementia. Certainly, the imaginary doctor has no name and his imaginary visit to Buhari had no known purpose and the doctor's field of speciality was also imagine. Thus, one can conclude that the Associate Professor is in psychosis and thereby is incapable of distinguishing between reality and his own imagination about Buhari's health. The Associate Professor of Gossipmongers continued, "A friend whose dad has dementia and who has also met Buhari in the recent past had earlier told me Buhari reminded her of her dad ... that Buhari's dementia is way worse than her dad's is."
As the Associate Professor become more addicted to feeling extremely special, he grows more dangerous, he grows more dangerous and a pattern of remorseless lies and manipulation became dominant in his essay. I come to think of the absurdity of a married Muslim Farooq having a woman as a friend. The imaginary and nameless woman friend of Farooq who told him that Buhari's dementia is worse than her dad's must be a made-up fable by the Associate Professor. Exhibiting his delusion, Farooq asserted, "..... although Aisha is formally married to President Buhari, she is actually isolated from him." Knowing very well that the global readers of his essay would wonder how the self-acclaimed eagle-eyes professor in Atlanta could see what is happening between Buhari and his wife in Aso Rock, at Abuja in Nigeria he added, "This is consistent with what I've heard from inside sources about the relationship between the first couple." Exaggerating his own self-importance, Farooq wants us to believe that he has Spies = inside sources, inside Aso Villa in Abuja reporting to him about everyday life there. Our self-proclaimed V.I.P., thinking to impress his global readers wrote, "I recall an incident in late 2015 …… I was having an argument with someone close to the Buhari presidency over something, and he suddenly said, 'I will tell the president's media team to issue a statement to clarify this.' A few hours later, a statement was issued expressing the exact sentiments of my interlocutor who isn't even officially a part of the government."
Let's observe that the person with whom our very important person had an argument was a nameless someone close to the Buhari Presidency. What the argument was about was named, something by our V.I.P., Farooq Kperogi. Of course, Farooq knows that no one will believe his fable that he had argument with someone on something if the someone is not close to Buhari presidency.
The all-knowing Associate Professor has the notions that his readers are mentally retarded and as such are incapable of deciphering whatever he writes. Hear him, "For selfish reasons Aisha won't reveal the true state of her husband's mental and physical health …." But in this same article, Farooq Kperogi, the Associate Professor in Atlanta has asserted thus, "... although Aisha is formally married to President Buhari, she is actually isolated from him. This is consistent with what I've heard from inside sources about the relationship between the first couple." In one breath Farooq wants his global readers to believe that Aisha Buhari is actually isolated from Buhari and in another breath he wants his readers to believe that Aisha knows the true state of her husband's mental health but she won't reveal it for selfish reasons. Well, Fela sang, Teacher, teach me no nonsense and I say Professor lecture me no nonsense.
Having repeatedly in this article declared Buhari demented and physically infirmed to rule Nigeria, the Associate Professor, Farooq A. Kperogi, finally suggested, "The National Assembly would (should) have constituted an independent team of medical experts to examine the state of Buhari's physical and mental state. If he is found to have dementia, as I strongly suspect he does, he should be declared incapacitated and removed from office." Earlier in his article under review here, Farooq Kperogi categorically stated, "Buhari is too weighed down by dementia and physical infirmity ….; Buhari barely has any awareness of his existence, much less the requirements of being president...; and Buhari appears infirmed both in mind and body." Abandoning his own unprofessional diagnoses on Buhari's health, Farooq Kperogi is now requesting the National Assembly to constitute a team of medical experts to determine physical and metal state of Buhari, whom he, Farooq, suspects to be afflicted with dementia. Farooq A. Kperogi does not reside in Nigeria; he does work in Aso Rock (Presidential Villa); and He is not a medical doctor. For heaven's sake, on what does he base his suspicion that Muhammadu Buhari is demented and infirmed? Even if the Associate Professor, Farooq Kperogi, were to be a Medical Doctor, he ought to know about Hippocratic Oath for medical practitioners. It apparently stated there that it is unethical for a medical doctor to offer a professional opinion on a public figure unless he/she has conducted an examination and has been granted proper authorization for such a statement. What Professor Farooq A. Kperogi has said about Buhari's physical and mental health is characteristic of psychopaths since it would appear that his primary objective is to ruin the reputation of Buhari with a smile, without feeling any guilt, shame or sadness. A day before Farooq A. Kperogi published his unprofessional medical diagnosis on Buhari's health, Buhari returned to Abuja on Friday, 13 February 2019 after attending a three-day meeting in Egypt, captioned :Forum on Peace and Sustainable Development in Africa. He led a delegate of seven Nigerians to the conference. What a clean medical testimonial of good health for Buhari!! Well, let us allow the frog to pretend being an elephant.

Thank you OAA for reminding us Buhari's body double who the schizophrenics say is totally isolated from her wife. President Muhammadu Buhari celebrates 77th birthday today and see him with his wife and children in the following link :- https://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2019/12/17/buhari-clocks-77-today-what-buharists-are-tweeting/
President Muhammadu Buhari clocks 77 today. He was born on 17 December 1942 in Daura, Katsina State. He had his early education in Katsina, then went to Kaduna for military training and later Sandhurst in Great Britain, India, and the United States.
Few days after the Associate Professor of malicious gossip averred in his unmedical diagnose of President Buhari as demented and infirmed, Buhari is celebrating his 77th birthday with his close aides. https://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2019/12/17/photos-buhari-marks-his-77th-birthday-with-close-aides/
President Muhammadu Buhari who clocked 77 today on December 17th celebrated his birthday at the statehouse with close aides. He was born on 17 December 1942 in Daura, Katsina State. He had his early education in Katsina, then went to Kaduna for military training and later Sandhurst in Great Britain ...
Comparing the pictures of Buhari with the people around him in relation to the diagnoses of dementia and infirmity pasted on him by the hallucinating Associate Professor, one is reminded of the Yoruba adage that says : WÓNÍ ADÌE KÒNI EYÍN, ADÌE JÉ ÌGBÀDO, OTÚN MÚ OMI, SÉ AWON TÓ NI EYÍN NJÉ ÒKÚTÁ NÍ? Roughly translated : They say fowl is toothless, fowl eats corn and seep water, do those who have teeth eat stone? If Buhari is demented and infirmed in the picture of him that we are seeing, how will the picture of a non-demented and a non-infirmed person look like?

Alagba Salomonu Kadiri,
Please read the Punch of today. The wife sent her message from London where she is on yet another private visit. This London must be very attractive to people who have access to public money and resources. The punch says that picture was from a previous birthday. Base 2 o jatre.

London is also attractive to people with private money and resources.

Luckily this couple will not be there forever. What is not accessible to the public while in power will be made accessible when they leave office.

Baba Kadiri,

Don't mind them. In 2017 and 2018 didn’t we read these God-forsaken rumours put out by the same malicious, good-for-nothing rumour mill?

This year, we (most of us, the people) have wished President Muhammadu Buhari a Happy Birthday, good health, long life and guidance from the Almighty in fighting corruption and running the country.

Which does not mean that great men, kings and prophets have not faced many difficulties in fighting corruption, even when guided by the Almighty.

I should like to quote these memorable, poetic words from the wisdom from Dr Ben Carson , akin to the situation of the haters of Brother Buhari:

“Haters will see you walking on water and say it’s because you can't swim.

Even if you dance on water, your enemies will accuse you of raising dust. “

My brother, Femi Segun!!
Buhari wore the same clothes when he marked his 77th birthday with his aides, his wife and family and when he signed the 2020 budget into law. He looks the same in all the three pictures. I suspect that the Punch is belly-aching to say that the picture of Buhari with his family is an old photograph when the picture of Buhari in the same dress with the same physical outlook appeared on the third picture in the same day while Buhari was signing the 2020 budget into law. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/368600-what-buhari-said-before-signing-2020-budget.html
President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday signed the 2020 budget. The total sum of the budget is N10.6 trillion. The president said being a deficit budget, he would send a 2020 – 2022 Borrowing Plan ...
I think the Punch is only trying to narcotize people like you with false information.
