Nigeria is effectively at war, and the President should proclaim that fact to mobilize the entire nation to fight back. The nation awaits a national Proclamation from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Nigeria is effectively at war, and the President should proclaim that fact to mobilize the entire nation to fight back. The nation awaits a national Proclamation from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria! The president should start by firing and replacing the current national security adviser. A new adviser with a no-nonsense approach is urgently needed. The message should be: if you are found to be a participant in the ongoing bloody acts of terrorism against Nigeria, we will promptly dispatch you to your ancestors. It should be a one-way ticket to their ancestral world. There should be no room for negotiations with murderous terrorists. There should be no rehabilitation program for self-proclaimed and positively identified terrorists. Has the program of rehabilitating and integrating former terrorists into the Nigerian armed forces strengthened or weakened the cohesion and internal security of the Nigerian Armed Forces?

It looks like you are not mistaken. But what is the nature of the compromise? Compromised by who?

Northern Muslim extremists who hold political power and who likely have their own covert and overt army and who control the Muslim North,a powerful political bloc.

The Muslim North is volatile.

They are also suffering hugely from Islamic terrorists but it's the same region where people are killed extrajudically by mobs in defense of Islam or in defense of a Muslim political candidate- Buhari and where people are sentenced to death by Sharia courts in defense of Islam.

When Deborah was murdered by a mob for alleged anti-Islamic blasphemy, only one Presidential candidate of very limited visibility condemned the act.

All others, from North and South,  all maintained silence, even the "saintly" Peter Obi.

Atiku put out a condemnation on social media but swiftly withdrew it, claiming the condemnation was posted without his permission, after the massive pushback from his fellow Northern Muslims who openly threatened on the thread of his post condemning the murder that they would not vote for him if  he did not withdraw his condemnation.

Practically all the Presidential candidates were mute because they want the votes of those people who believe that human life is secondary to their religion.

Various high profile Northern Muslims, including the chief imam of the Abuja orAso Rock mosque, not sure which,  either publicly justified the murder or explained it as an expected reaction to an insult on their faith.

According to a speaker at the recent Falola mini conference on Trump in relation to Africa, a good number of Northern Muslim Senior Advocates of Nigeria publicly defended the murder.

She was being factual bcs she was not contradicted, even by the Northern Muslim member of the panel who provided what I consider a ridiculous pushback by arguing that the condemnation from the Sultan of Sokoto, the head of all Nigerian Muslims counters the responses from the Muslims, both general and high profile, who supported  the murder.

What I'm trying to say is that the extremist Islamic culture of the Muslim North holds Tinubu hostage

To become President he has made a deal with the devil.

He needed the support of Buhari and his fellow Northern Muslim extremists and Fulani hegemons and is continuing their internal imperialist agenda by being less than decisive on Islamic and Fulani militia terrorism.

He needs the votes of the Northern Muslim population controlled by those extremists, votes from a region where Boko Haram were once described as freedom fighters, as true Muslims, and the war against them as war against the North by Buhari and Adamawa governor Murtala Nyako, an approach that resonated in the Northern Muslim street until Boko Haram widened their scope from attacking only Christians to attacking everyone.

Some say the army is indequately equipped but I think the problem is deeper than that.

You cant live in a culture of insistjng you have a right to kill people who you say offend your religion and not expect some people from that culture will not take that attitude to its logical conclusion, as Boko Haram and ISWAP are doing.

You can't have a culture where armies of your people regularly commit massacres in the Middle Belt and you are either silent or you justify those massacres and the impunity will not spread to you, as evidenced by the escalation of terrorism by Fulani militia and violent Fulani herdsmen in the Middle Belt and nationally, enabled by the Buhari govt and the eventual overspill into the core North, as in attacks on military establishments in Kaduna and the terrorising of even Buhari's state Kastsina, by people whom the then  Katsina governor described as Fulani like himself after trying to relate with them.

You can't integrate former Boko Haram terrosits into your army and maintain its integrity, described as a rehabilitation strategy initiated in Buhari's time.

Our problem is that the Muslim North is confused and some of its most powerful leaders are pursuing an anti-Nigerian agenda in favour of an Islamic Caliphate and a Fulani hegemony.

I expect Tinubu knows this but needs the votes of the population they control.

I would be shocked if he is able to move decisively against Islamic terrorism, Fulani militia and violent Fulani herdsmen.

The future might hold an expansion of an Amotemun-like initiative of self defense across the nation, but armed with the best weapons and serious surveillance techniques bypassing the Nigerian army which has reliability problems even as it's men are dying at the hands of the extremists.

Each state might need its own self created army in defiance of the fed govt.

Fiber min of defense T.Y. Danjuma has long counselled this.

We might also need to decide about the unity of the nation  going forward.

Thanks

Toyin
