Robert  Mugabe’s contribution to the liberation of Zimbabwe from white supremacist domination - and the likes of Ian Smith - was a major turning point in the anti- colonial nationalist struggle. The victory of Zimbabwe contributed to the eventual anti - apartheid successes of  Namibia and South Africa. Unfortunately, the Mugabe regime was unable to deal effectively with the monstrous sanctions imposed on the country by a group of Western countries that queried its land reform policies. Along the way Mugabe made some questionable decisions, became corrupt and  even aspired to be President for life,  but his courage, determination and contributions in the earlier years, remain unforgettable.
May he join Winnie Mandela, Steve Biko, Thomas Sankara,  Agostinho Neto, Amilcar Cabral, Nelson Mandela and the long line of courageous people who contributed to the liberation of Africa from  colonial  occupation.

The turning point in the struggle for Zimbabwe was the liberation of Mozambique—-that is where ZANLA fought. Thanks to FRELIMO and the leadership of Machel. Mugabe only became a factor after they murdered Chitepo.
