Dear Dr. Adepoju,

I hope this message finds you well.

I am pleased to share that my essay, “Exchanging the shepherd’s staff for AK-47: Fulani Herdsmen and the negotiation of identity and security in Nigeria,” which I mentioned in the course of our last discussion, has now been published in the journal African Identities. The publisher has provided me with 50 free eprints, which you may access through the link below:

https://www.tandfonline.com/eprint/A5N73SXXHJHCRYNZXANS/full?target=10.1080/14725843.2025.2600461

For your convenience, I have also attached a PDF copy of the published article to this email.

I would appreciate it if you could pay particular attention to my discussion of how the Buhari administration created an enabling environment for the deepening of the farmer–herder conflict, especially the analysis of the dated nature of his unwavering support for Fulani herders and the political implications of that stance. These sections intervene directly in ongoing debates about state responsibility, policy failure, and the securitization of pastoralism in Nigeria - views that you also expressed earlier.

As always, I welcome any thoughts or reflections you may have.

With warm regards,

Bukola
