*Text of Press Conference on Tuesday 29th June, 2021 by the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN on the Interception of Fugitive Nnamdi Kanu back to Nigeria to face trial*

Self-aclaimed leader of the proscribed secessionist Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has been through the collaborative efforts of Nigerian intelligence and security services.

He has been brought back to Nigeria in order to continue facing trial after disappearing while on bail regarding 11 count charge against him.

Recent steps taken by the Federal Government saw to the interception of the fugitive Kanu on Sunday the 27th day of June, 2021.

Nwannekaenyi Nnamdi Ngozichukwu Okwu-Kanu, born 25th day of September, 1967 at Afaraukwu, Abia State is a holder of Nigerian Passport No. A05136827 first issued 17th October 2013 at FESTAC, Lagos.

It is recalled that Kanu was arrested on 14th October, 2015 on 11 count charge bordering on terrorism, treasonable felony, managing an unlawful society, publication of defamatory matter, illegal possession of firearms and improper importation of goods, among others.

A judge at the Federal High Court, Abuja revoked Kanu's bail that was granted him on health ground and issued a bench warrant for his arrest on the same date, over his failure to appear in court for hearing.

He has, upon jumping bail, been accused of engaging in subversive activities that include inciting violence through television, radio and online broadcasts against Nigeria and Nigerian State and institutions.

Kanu was also accused of instigating violence especially in the Southeastern Nigeria that resulted in the loss of lives and property of civilians, military, para military, police forces and destruction of civil institutions and symbols of authorities.

Sad.

But it could backfire on the govt.

The entire country outside the Muslim North is already mobilised agst the supremacist Fulani driven agenga of the Buhari govt.

The national mood when the govt attacked peaceful  IPOB and Kanu fled is very different from the current situation.

How could it backfire against the govt?

All he was asked to do was stand trial for allegations against him.

If he had nothing to hide, why flee and jump bail?

Did Gani Fawehinmi ever flee the captivity of the military under Babangida even when he was invited to do so by double dealing prison officials?

He was intelligent enough to realise he could be gunned down in flight and all kinds of spurious charges levelled against him in absentia.

Did my Great Aare ever contemplate fleeing the captivity of his northern killers when he had more than abundant resources to organise such flight?
Which body of Nigerian"s outside the Muslim North approved of Kanu's methods.

The CAOs of this world , ( including yours truly? )

Not all the non- northerners in Nigeria belong in the ranks of Toyin Adepoju.

It seems someone is unaware of the circumstances under which Kenu fled Nigeria or is aware and chooses not to reference them.

What moral credibility does a terrorist govt have against a person running a non- violent organisation?

None.

Most of us are with Kanu.

We want out of the prison where Fulani terrorists run the nation.

Oluwatoyin,

What is always being referenced in this matter is the attack on Kanu's country home by Nigerian soldiers.

Bad as that may be, methinks however that we should also reference the provocation as a result of the initial attack by Kanu's supporters on the soldiers on routine patrol, their reason being that the area was "Biafra territory". This version was told by IPOB members present in Kanu's home at the time of the attack.

Oluwatoyin, if you have ever encountered IPOB members in their areas of influence, you would have a second opinion about IPOB being a non violent organization as being touted on the internet.

Are you stating you are referencing IPOB members on the story of their attack on soldiers or other news sources?

Bros, what  terrible things could  IPOB have done in comparison with a country being run by terrorists?

The govt is working hard to lionize Kanu.

Whatever they do, the man becomes more of a matyr.

The only way to defuse the Biafra vision is to run the country equitably.

These chaps are keen instead on Fulani supremacist domination.

I have stated on this forum what Kanu was arrested for, which Toyin Adepoju denied awareness of:  it is that the Nigerian police said that they found evidence that Kanu and his supporters were stockpiling arms in what Toyin Adepoju continued to label as oeaceful protests.

Kanu only needed to go to court to prove that the police were lying against him, and not abcond.

What happened was a raid with tanks, troops and massacre, not an arrest

I am yet to see oga respond to the massacre by Fulani herdsmen militia his backyard in Igangan, to which the same govt has given support through silence.

Someone is waging war against you and you are clapping for him.

When shall these people wake up?

There is an investigation into the Igangan affair.

It is believed they are Fulani herdsmen. It was not believed IPOB attacked Armed Forces personnel.  They claimed they did it to protect their indigenous land which Nigerian forces were sent to defend as Nigerian land.  There is a difference between the two.

The Igagan marauders did not attack bona-fide Nigerian armed forces as Boko Haram did.  They attacked civilians and the Federal government to my knowledge is not giving Boko Haram a pat on the back for a job well done.

As Finance minister Zainab Ahmed maintained in the BBC Hard Talk interview with Zainab Badawi the Buhari govt drove Boko Haram away from their forcibly seized territory.

Why must the FG apply double standards by allowing IPOB to forcibly seize Nigerian territory, simply because they are indigenous to the area as Boko Haram is indigenous to the North East?
