Let us not forget that the honorable
Thabo Mbeki agreed to adopt the
 devastating, neoliberal policy
GEAR, during his administration.
 This policy enhanced the wealth
gap, and indirectly helped to create
 South Africa’s Gini coefficient whereby
this country has perhaps the world’s
greatest gap between rich and poor.
He ditched RDP, that was  a more
 progressive program
and against privatization and  the
callous “survival of the fittest “
modus operandi.

Mbeki also presided over the deaths
of thousands during the AIDS crisis.
He did not cause the pandemic,  but
his response was questionable.

His pivot to a meaningful PanAfricanist
philosophy, later on in his career, should
be applauded as a step forward.
