By Chidi Anthony Opara
We battled boldly,
We battled from the trenches,
On all fronts.
We battled the practitioners
And the apologists
Of colour based segregations.
The D-day came,
The day
Of the decisive battle came.
Our enemies were weary,
War weary.
We were not weary,
Our quest for equality
Quenched the weariness.
Our enemies sang praise songs,
Praise songs
In praise of our lead warriors.
We were worried
And wore our worry
On our faces,
Our resolve receded.
Our lead warriors wobbled,
Then this porous peace
And this nightmare named "xenophobia"
And these attacks on ourselves!
