It is a fact that the incoming administration in Nigeria will be bogged down with debt servicing expenditures. Let us even assume that the new debts will not be due for repayment throughout the lifetime of the incoming administration.

The debts servicing expenditures will definitely be large enough to affect other inevitable expenditures of government.

For the incoming administration to be able to get enough funds to finance meaningful projects for the people, it must find a way to persuade the country's new creditors to offer the new administration a breathing space in the form of a four-year moratorium on debt servicing and repayment, if the debts are due for repayment.

Nigerians with considerable international clout, especially in the global financial sector should be contacted and constituted into a committee for this purpose.

Unfortunately, non of the presidential candidates is making promises in this direction, yet the success or failure of the incoming administration will depend on this matter.

Thank you for your time.

Chidi,

If I owe you big money. Will you stop my repayment because I gather a few of your kindred to talk to you about me?

I doubt it very much.

Cheers.

IBK,

Are you saying that there have never been moratoria on debt servicing and repayments?

If there were, wouldn't there be if the right approach is followed?

Dear brother,

Maybe there have been and maybe not.  Argentina is strangled till tomorrow by loans it obtained from the 60s and 70s.  Punitive loans ruined Haiti for over 300 years which France and US imposed on her.  My question is whether you will let go off your loan if your kindred speaks to you.

Cheers.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre

The falcon cannot hear the falconer;

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;

Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere

The ceremony of innocence is drowned;

The best lack all conviction, while the worst

Are full of passionate intensity.
