Opinion

The Judiciary is killing Nigeria’s Democratic Dispensation with the help of the Executive and Legislative branches of Government.

Once upon a time, in Warri Western Nigeria (and later the Mid-West, Bendel, and now Delta State), the practice of some ethnic unions was to send members of the union and a dancing troupe to Lagos to welcome a son or daughter returning home after having been called to the Bar in the UK. That was how much we respected and treasured our Barristers and the judiciary in those days.

Regrettably, this is where Nigeria now finds herself with the judiciary rubbishing Nigeria’s democracy. I recalled that when the former Senate President, under Buhari, was asked the question: How did you end up in the Senate when you were one of the presidential candidates in the APC? His answer:  “It was the judiciary that made it possible on technicality.”

I hope you understand that history will not be kind to this generation of judicial leaders!

Dear Ike:

Please re-read Achebe’s No Longer At Ease on how that model created its own complications. I developed the argument that this was part of the beginning of what I labeled as “bureaucratic corruption,” which escalated.

What Prof. Falola rightly calls “bureaucratic corruption” (BC) I call Naija’s own “deep state” (DS). Almost every “nation state” associated directly or indirectly with NATO, BRICS, World Bank, WHO, etc. HAS more or less “deep”  “chessY” relationships with the Deep State (aka global criminal syndicate). How come, for instance, Bill Gates who “AINT’ a medical doctor has become the veteran postal child for the global pandemic? Deep State AIN’T conspiracy. Deep State has increasingly become technologISM” — the politics of our times.  (Un)fortunately, today’s geopolitics AIN’T for players of Checkers — ONLY for players of CHESS. My dear sistahs and brothas of the world, read (again and again) Orwell’s 1984. You have nothing to lose ….
