Wahala. The story says Berto, already declared Norway's most productive researcher, wanted to be known as "Europe's most productive researcher." That's the type of vacuous ambition that can lead to this type of trouble. His colleagues were scoring 1.2 publication points while he was scoring 407 points. Should that not have been a red flag? Turns out his former university was making money from his points and probably overlooked his infractions because of that.

As long as you bring home the bacon, you get the red-carpet and super star treatment and everyone is happy, minding their own business. Well, until that nerdy colleague starts asking "annoying questions." Most R1 universities in the United States run into this kind of failure of proper governance of research grants. Chat-GPT is going to make the "research mill colleague" matter more interesting 🤔.
