Nimi, huge congratulations on your latest offering. Just browsing the TOC makes one salivate. There's nothing else to say about your fecundity. You're already in Falola territory of productivity and interdisciplinary publications. To borrow a phrase from Naija Afrobeats, you're giving us hits back-to-back. We're grateful.

Thanks to all of you who sent me congratulatory messages on the publication of my latest book. I appreciate your kind gesture and encouragement. For rejoicing with me, joy will not cease in your life. Anytime I hear from you or about you, it shall be good news.

Let me add a fillip to your day with a story and a request. In the 1970s Dr. Nabo Graham-Douglas was the Attorney-General of Nigeria under General Gowon. He came home to our town, Abonnema, Rivers States. As the AG sat in front of his house, he saw one of our mutual cousins, a secondary school teacher, riding his bicycle. He called out to him: “Sokari, you did not come to greet me. Didn’t you get all my messages and greetings to you from Lagos.” (In Kalabari-Ijo, what the AG said literally meant, “didn’t my mouth reach you from Lagos”).  Sokari replied: “I got all the messages and greetings, but not your hand. If your hand [your money] had reached me, then I would be the first person to come and greet you anytime you come home from Lagos.” (In Kalabari, the man said: “Your mouth [bibi] reached me, but not your hand [bara]. If your hand reached me as your mouth did, I would have come to greet you anytime you return home”).

To all you great scholars that sent messages to me, your mouth ( pen or keyboard) reached me, but your hands did not reach me. Next time, extend your hands to me. Then, I will run to wherever you are in the world to greet you every morning.  Abeg, I dey joke on.

Best wishes,

Nimi Wariboko

This generation is a very fortunate
one, indeed. At our disposal is a
buffet of books, by Wariboko,
Bangura, Abidde, SefaDei; Adichie,
Soyinka,  etc., and the great
celebrant himself, Toyin Falola.
Let us count our lucky stars
and read, enjoy and critique the
books. Will the next gen be as
fortunate?
