Dr. Okonjo-Iweala Will Have To Distant Herself From Nigeria In The Coming Week......

Nigeria's support is hurting Dr. Okonjo-Iweala's World Trade Organization's(WTO) Director-general bid. 

Nigeria engages in archaic and even hostile foreign trade practices. 

Think about the border closures on the flimsy excuse of criminality,  which enhanced border security could have taken care of.  The placement of trade items on absolute prohibition list to protect non existent local manufacturing, the constant resort to raising revenue via import duties, cumbersome goods clearing procedures, etc. 

In this era of liberal foreign trade practices movement, Nigeria's insistence on the aforementioned unwholesome foreign trade policies would hurt the W. T. O candidacy of even the best. Dr. Okonjo-Iweala is however lucky that the European Union, seeking a pound of flesh from President Trump for supporting Britain's exit, supports her candidacy. African Union and ECOWAS supports count for little. 

Dr. Okonjo-Iweala would have to tactically distant her self from Nigeria in the coming week,  if she really wants the support of the very influential U. S. A for the coveted W. T. O prime job.

Your long prose on this is very interesting. For all the blame you put on Nigeria, only ONE country is presently opposed to her nominee - the USA. 

How does a nominee distance themselves from their nominator? Do you really have to self contradict? 

Is it not easier to just support Trump’s position which might be easier and more consistent with the arguments you make? And really, there is nothing wrong with that, it will simply be your position which you are entitled to. 

I’m really curious to have a better understanding of your position.

If you have had any involvement in the Maritime sector and /or freight forwarding subsector and witnessed first hand the kind of foreign trade policies Nigeria formulates and enunciates, and if you subscribe to the current global liberal foreign trade practices movement,  you would be suspicious of the candidacy of any Nigerian nominee for the W. T. O top job.
