that's a good question. you could ask it of nigeria, too, or france or other countries. is the u.s. so "feminist"? we failed to pass the equal rights amendment. that says tons. not all that feminist. in truth, we're divided between conservatives and liberals,
with women's rights only partially won.
that said, hilary clinton won the popular vote by more than 2 million votes, and should be president.
i'd venture to say in some milieux women's rights and dignity prevail; in others not. at universities, generally, they prevail. others won't agree w me, but i'd argue that is true in practice and theory, and the strong militancy of the movement is centered
in universities. there is also pushback and old boy networks, but they are generally not dominant. more or less.
