Falola

The tall ìrókò that defines a forest

The tall ìrókò without which a forest is one big tree less.

Igi Gbàngbà!

Igi Ẹ̀rìmọ̀!

The huge Ìrókò whose canopy

spreads comfort over thousands

I celebrate another year

of your sturdy growth

I celebrate another year

of pan-African scholarship

I celebrate another year

of trans-Atlantic friendship

and cross-cultural projects

I celebrate another year

of productive collaborations

Last year,

you wept and bled

Your heart bore the burden

of global trauma

You prayed

and sang

and wrote

tons of memorials

to the living and the dead

This year:

May Elédùmarè

bring you comfort

from all sides;

may the Òrìṣà always

mount the defence

against the hordes of

Òfò

the loss of all love;

Àrùn

the dis-ease of our souls;

Ẹ̀gbá

the paralysis of our will;

Ikú

The demise of our pursuits;

and all other multiple

misfortunes attached

to the human condition.

Àṣẹ wà á!

Let it be so!

Great people:

Help me celebrate Professor Toyin Falola

the Grand Ol' Professor of Professors!

The Erinmi that troubles the mighty oceans.

Àsèyísàmódún, Bàbá Àgbàlagbà!

Received with thanks and joining in on the giving of thanks to Prof TF. Thank you for keeping us united through this platform in 2020.

I join in celebrating those who were honored, celebrated their birthdays and share the loss with those whose loved ones joined the ancestors.

It was not an easy year but it is now history and here we are on the cusp of '21 with hope and optimism.

Prof TF may God grant you more strength and years and the magnanimity to continue holding us all together. I especially enjoy your poetic celebration of those whose achievements you bring to our collective attention.

Blessings to all.

AKS

I join all other well wishers, colleagues, friends, brothers and sisters, to celebrate with Àgbàlagbà, Èégún Ológbojò, Akọ Erinlá A borí poopo, Prof Oloruntoyin Fálọlá, the Erinmi Òùnpìtàn of Africa, and the Diaspora, on this august occasion, to mark his birthday! God has been kind to him for his unrivalled achievements, and for leading him thus far. Again, God has been kind to our generation, too, to have been blessed with the Àjàǹtálá-spirit-Man considering TF's many talents, his forest of rare published works and, his numerous mentees, his large-hearted personality, and numerous beneficiaries. I join others to commend your Pan-Africanist vision, and the doggedness with which you pursue it. But of what use is a vision if it has nobody to share with? Of what use is a drum beaten without dancers? A Yoruba adage says, roughly put, "people are my clothes I cover with!" That is why kudos also go to all friends, colleagues, well wishers, etc., on this platform, and beyond that constitute the critical mass that drives the vision that now enjoys global visibility of considerable magnitude. We all share in the joy of today. Baba TF, as you have another year added to your age today, may you age with grace, and graciously be blessed with very long life, with a renewed energy and robust health; and like the Eagle, may you fly higher, soar over, and above, all challenges of life, and with greater exploits to prosper the cause of humanity, to the glory of Bàbá God. Many Happy returns of the Day, my very dear brother!
Cheer, all!

It is indeed a special privilege to be admitted here and to interact with patriachal Professors. I'm indeed favoured to have understudied Prof Falola and other eminent scholars and statesmen on this global platform. On this occasion of the distinguished Moderator's birthday,  i wish Prof Falola a glorious celebration. He is celebrated daily here and this occasion is exclusive. Happy birthday sir. Many more years in good health, exemplary scholarship and limitless prosperity.
