All things being equal, this prediction is likely to happen “if democrats do not cut off their nose to spite their face,” during the Democratic Convention, over minor issues.

Why should I believe this now? Was it not with the same science, and in greater intensity, that predicted a different outcome the last time around? My fingers are nervously crossed until November 3 when projections are coming in from PBS, CNN and FOX. Until then, I'm taking no baits From any prognosticator. Have the people changed? Is it because they are not talking? In the politics of the early 1960s in Nigeria, they called it "Boo r'ojuu mi, oò ri'núú mi!" (You may see my face, alright; my heart is far from your reach)! The Dems will lose again if they hang on to the same happy-go-lucky they have always manifested! I seriously hope not.

nate cohen recently wrote to defend the latest nytimes-siena poll, and claim they are doing a better job. i can't imagine, after the debacle last year, after everyone was so such about clinton's win, how we could not feel as you do michael. both holding our breath and hoping beyond hope that the monster will be voted out. having had the experience of him for these last almost 4 years, it really seems he is capable of anything, meaning anything really bad, especially when it comes toholding on to power.
and he is not alone in this. the republicans have gerrymandered successsfully for some time now.

Glad I'm not alone, Ken! I don't move on easy as many do, and so I try these days not to hype myself for anything, no matter the high hopes I hold on it. When my prayer is answered, then I will celebrate; before then, I feel comfortable on the pessimist's chair. I have learned that in America, anything can happen - I mean ANYTHING!!!

i agree. we all have vivid memories of election night 2016. we went to three friends' houses. the first, highly optimistic, etc. by the third, where lots of high school kids were present, there were tears and tears....
it was a shock, and i know i went blank for maybe 24 hours. felt almost nothing. i can tell you now if he were to win, it would occasion very deep glooom, and i mean not just for me but for the world....
so, i'll hold my hopes in rein,

I share these sentiments by Michael and Ken and I can only add that people need to contact friends, colleagues, and others and encourage them to vote. The pools look great, but I remember 2016. A week before the elections,  I went up to Pennsylvania to be part of a book lunch on HIV and AIDS in Africa edited by my colleague and brother Jaquineau Azetsop. In the morning I went to the train stop to take the train up to Villanova and a gentleman came by and we struck a conversation. I told him I was going to Villanova and he asked if I work there, I said no, I was going to a book launch. He asked what book and I told him a book on HIV and theology and he was intrigued and asked and in conversation he told me he was an attorney and his grandfather was an attorney for a famous minster in Philadelphia. I asked who, and he said Donald Barnhouse, and I said oh, I know about him. He was intrigued, and I described him and the rest of the team in Philadelphia that were key to the Evangelical movement. He asked me about education and I told him we knew of Barnhouse and others in Africa but I studied under the young Evangelical theologian, Stanley Grenz. He immediately trusted me and shifted to politics and told me that they have done their homework and Hilary is not carrying Pennsylvania.  They had done door to door visits, mailings, adds on radio and TV and have covered the entire State and they think they might even carry the city of Philadelphia and he was confident Hilary will not win their State.

Back in Houston, I told a group of friends that based on this conversation, I was very concerned, but they just laughed at me, and I thought they should because the polls look great. On election night, I was so down that I went to bed about 9 pm. Phone calls from Africa began coming in at midnight and I did not have the strength to answer anyone of them. My view now is similar to Michael and Ken, I will wait and toast when the call comes in November, but before that there is more emailing, calling friends and colleagues, and spreading the word. That is the least one can do.

Trump is out, a definite one-term presidency. The comparison with his first win is out of place, lacking in the understanding of how politics work. A master of self-destruction, his strategy—immigration and whiteness—is overspent. He had two crises which are winning strategies—CoronaV and Floyd—but he squandered both. Short of inventing a war, not only will his opponent win with a landslide, Trump may become one of the world’s leaders to end in prison.

Yes, these are unprecedented times and we need for the African Community to really pull up ahead of elections; not just because of Trump but because this has been a long time coming and we need to be able to make decisions concerning our interests re:immigration, jobs, trade.

Just two days ago, Kojo Cesar a young Ghanaian https://kojoforcongress.com/ won his primaries with 34,099 votes and will challenge his republican incumbent for a congressional seat.

We are coming up, just support us and those who are doing the work, so that we can finally have a impactful voting block.

I love strong optimists like Professor Falola and would like his confident prediction to hold the rock come November 3. I ardently pray that I and other skeptics would be the ones to call and apologize to him on that fateful day for being pleasantly surprised because he has been proven right.

Yes, indeed, Nneka, in addition to the boldness of Koro Cesar, I am impressed by the ingenious audacities of many progressive second generation African-Americans who are challenging the status quo all around the US of A. Let me give a list here, and these are just a few Nigerian-Americans:

1. Olanike Adebayo is a candidate for Miami-Dade County, Florida's 11th Circuit Court (Group 55) Olanike Adebayo For Judge

2. April Ademiluyi, candidate for Prince George's County, Maryland's 7th Circuit Court https://www.votejudgeapril.com/

3. Ngozi Akubuike, candidate for Ramsey Court, Minnesota http://www.ngoziakubuikejudge.org/

4. Yinka Faleti, candidate, Missouri Secretary of State 2020, candidate Yinka Faleti

5.Esther Agbaje, candidate, Minnesota Representative District 59B (August 11), Welcome | Esther for State Representative

6. Jude Ezeh, candidate, New Milford, New Jersey, city Council (July 7)

7. Oye Owolewa, candidate. US House of Representative. (Shadow Representative), Washington, DC, oye4DC.com

The list goes on and on. The tide, texture and character of America need to change for better. This is becoming too toxic. Seriously!

Not so sure about this prediction.

The persons who declare themselves anti-Trump today could  rally around him tomorrow.

Fear of Black emergence is real, especially when
law & order and property are merged in a
pre-election campaign.

Not all of the people marching in the Black Lives Matter rallies are anti-Trump or anti- racist. There are also the Black evangelicals, some of whom are still Trumpists.

A vaccine before November can become a powerful electoral talking point for the regime. A fake war may not work this time around but depending on its execution may yet garner some votes and Iran is still on the war monger’s table.

The Bolton and Mary Trump books are too soon.
Voters have short memory.

Listen to analysts on CNBC and they are hoping Trump wins to keep the tax cuts going.

Add to this the rigging of the election, high mortality of Minority voters and the fear of others
to get out and vote.

In 2016, I campaigned for, and gave my widow’s mite to, the candidate who won the popular vote, but lost the electoral college ballot a la 2000 (Bush vs Gore). The polls were wrong in 2016—so wrong—that I am not prepared to count my chicks…this time. I recalled that in anger I refused to watch the tele for a fortnight. It is critical that we go out to vote this year; and that we take as many friends, relatives and even “enemies” to the poll. Please take Gloria’s piece seriously.

I am impressed with the number of our brothers and sisters running for one political office or the other this year. Bravo and good luck to them!
