There’s nothing about the visit here either:

The Embassy had a fairly good reputation during the Shagari and early Buhari and Babangida years… but I guess Baba Kadiri knows best…
As we all know, just like the competition when it comes to selling weapons, aeroplanes, etc the competition to provide 5G technology is fierce - China would like to be the one, so would France, Germany, the United States, maybe even Canada, to the extent that it could involve some diplomatic cloak-and-dagger skulduggery
So, with some of these hush-hush business meetings, absolute secrecy is of the essence. Understandably, the last thing that the Tinubu Administration would like to happen is for the Nigerian opposition elements in Sweden to get wind of the VP's forthcoming visit and for the Nigerian Vice-President and his entourage/ delegation to be met at the Arlanda Airport by an angry mob of Nigerian citizens who could have organised themselves into a demonstration against their home government and perhaps even caused their proposed business deal to be under unnecessary scrutiny. Bad for business. Naturally, both Sweden and Nigeria could have therefore taken the necessary precaution of wrapping up the deal in secrecy.
Baba Kadiri of course believes that honesty is the best policy, that such visits should not be shrouded in secrecy.
Let us pray that nothing “ underhand “ happened and that this does not cause a diplomatic storm or another ”Commission of Enquiry…
The bridge at midnight trembles,
Cheers

Bilateral talks about “ICT, digitalisation, sustainable transport, agriculture and mining” - that’s quite a vast area, but so far you have been mainly focused on 5G technology quoting a Nigerian newspaper but not official Nigerian or Swedish government sources which means that you are still pretty much in the dark…
About the matter of greater concern, Baba Kadiri has explained the mess himself, inadvertently 👍
“Since the Swedish Media would not give credence to thriftless spending of Nigeria's money by VP Shettima and companies, they chose not to give publicity to his presence as well as his departure from Sweden.”
Unlike David Cameron whispering to Her Majesty : Nigeria, “fantastically corrupt”
Given the Oyibos love of sensational headlines about Africa, I was wondering whether a conspiracy of silence would be a plausible conjecture, and you have now endorsed that understanding that in order to save VP Shettima from embarrassment, negative attention ( about unnecessary travel expenses etc -because of 419 etc, Nigeria always being associated with corruption, conspicuous consumption etc) perhaps in the national interest - altruists that they must be, “they chose not to give publicity to his presence as well as his departure from Sweden.”
There’s another aspect to this and similar stories ( I have met Ogas from Nigeria, Kenya, other African and Caribbean countries sometimes here in an official capacity - staying at the Grand Hotel of course ( all expenses paid by their governments) and apart from their official business, medical check up etc, some presents for the wifey, in the leisure evening, pleasure, ”something reasonable” and for the rest of their spare time, they waste no time in arranging some other personal business - sky's the limit, such as arrangements for some choice transport vehicle, sea craft, electronics, what have you, to be shipped home to them…of course with the assistance of the blokes at the embassy…
BTW, it’s difficult to imagine that there were no photo ops when they met “the Prime Minister of Sweden, Ulf Kristersson, and Crown Princess Victoria.”
BTW, Sweden has had a fair share of financial scandals, the Bofors Scandal, the Lundin Oil Scandal, money laundering etc which means that the Swedish side must also be exercising some caution when wheeling and dealing with their Nigerian counterparts
Baba Kadiri,
Good Morning !
Ẹ káàrọ̀ o, bàbá !

Baba Kadiri,
Sabr !
“He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.” ( King James Version)
“Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet” ( Jean-Jacques Rousseau)
So, let’s be patient. By 2050 when Nigeria is projected to be the third most populous nation in the world, Sweden will most probably be more impressed and could be courting Nigeria for a greater share of the enormous Nigerian market.
Up to now ( 2024) there are not so many Nigerian immigrants to Sweden ,in fact, in 2022, the exact figure for the number of Nigerian-born people in Sweden was only 8,272 souls…
With regard to the Yoruba aphorism which teaches that “only a fool will hold the fish by the tail while the wise will hold it by the head”, interestingly enough there’s also this Jewish prayer : “May we be the head and not the tail “
Baba Kadiri did indeed point out that “ Nigeria has had an Embassy in Sweden since 1970 but in the past six months the Nigerian Embassy which is also accredited to Denmark, Finland and Norway, has been managed by a Chargé dé Affaires. If the Embassy of Nigeria in Sweden were to live up to the standard of other diplomats in the world, it would, at least, have liaised with the Swedish Media to tout the impending visit of Vice President Kashim Shettima to Sweden”
Absolutely!
And the red carpet would have been rolled out for VP Shettima & entourage / trade delegation
For the arrival of President Tinubu & the First Lady of Nigeria, trumpets and a 21-gun salute
With regard to the PR that’s supposed to be one of the functions of an Embassy, with a press attaché and a public relations officer, here’s one of the reasons why the VP’s two day visit to Sweden didn’t get that much publicity :
‘Extended Delay In Appointing Ambassadors Diminishing Nigeria’s Global Relevance’
