Hi Cheat!

Sorry this is coming at you so late! Here is the sign up sheet for this week. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1dmCSuKSsjBI42kPsN7uz0hLpDI3RMdjJG9bYX-wt7pE/edit?usp=sharing

Please try to sign up by Thursday for this coming weekend. We wil plan to do two groups away and one in town. The Cheat is low and getting lower so, unless there is some unexpected rain this week in Albright, we will likely be at the Lower Youghiogheny.

See you on the river soon! Ashley

Happy Thursday, everyone!

Just a quick reminder to sign up for this weekend by today. It helps us to know how many people are planning to go on the trip or stay in town.

For Saturday, we will be meeting in Ohiopyle at 10 am. You will need to run your own shuttle from there. Calleva will not be providing shuttle. The Lower Yough shuttle bus is running at the end from the take out to the parking area. You are required to bring a mask and will be asked to show it when you put in. I believe they are regulating the number of people allowed on the bus but an option could be to put your boat in the trailer and walk up. I am not sure whether they are charging for the shuttle right now, but please bring $4 cash just in case.

Steve-O will be leading a group in town 9 am - 12 pm at Lock 5.

Thanks & see you this weekend! Ashley

For future reference, anybody have any intel on the bike shuttle at the LY?  How difficult?  How far?  Need a mountain bike?

I have ridden that section in a road bike with not too skinny tires.  I think I remember it being 7 miles.  The issue is getting the boat to the top given you can’t drive down when the bus it running.

I’ll be glad to drive my pickup. It has 5 seats inside but 4 with all windows open and masks on will eliminate trapping aerosols. I can also fit at least 4 in the bed. That’s legal in PA as long as we drive under 35 (not a problem on those roads) and everyone is at least 18 years old.

I’m also open to carpooling with someone. I’m fine with windows open. It would be good for someone to be able to stay with the boats at the put in while we run shuttle to the parking lot above the takeout.

Nice to know the takeout bus is running.

Stay well,
Mark

Eric, there is a Mtn Bike trail back to OP.

park at the bus shuttle drop off parking lot (Old Mitchell Place). Used currently for weekends only during Covid 19.
as you drive in, look for the trail head to the right along the tree line - should be a sign. Sugar Run Trail.
Follow Sugar Run Trail out of the gravel parking lot, this is a good Mtn Bike trial for about 2 miles.
Follow to the left to Jonathan Run Trail for a short distance, possible 1/4 mile.
Follow right to the main trail of the Great Allegheny Trail, follow back to Ohiopyle. several miles back to town.

Once you get this bike trail down, you will like over and over for a bike shuttle. Suggest a Mtn Bike given the first two miles on Sugar Run.

Enjoy.... Have fun on the river.

Mark,

This sounds like a good idea to run the shuttle.  I am open to running shuttle with you.  I can also bring a bike and do the bike shuttle.    I see there are directions, but will need time to run the shuttle if I am riding.

I will need clear directions as to what I need to do as this is the first time running the LY.

I will plan on being in the Ohiopyle visitors center at 10 AM with $6 ( I heard this in the parking lot at Anglers) for the bus shuttle, ready to either shuttle with you Mark or ride a MTB bike.

Peace to you

Chris.

Kara and I are planning to ride up in one car, so one of us can stay with everyone's boats while the other participates in whatever shuttle is going on.

We'll also be camping at the Outflow Camping with plans to run the Lower Yough again on Sunday. We would like someone to shuttle with then as well if anyone wants to join us for a sunday run (and join us for camping as well).

Do we have to reserve our own boat launch permit or will it be on your commercial permit? If we need to get our own, what time should we reserve for launch?

Thanks,
Mark

You will be on the calleva permit so no need to reserve a permit. The only thing you’ll need to purchase is the shuttle wrist band.
