Kia ora from New Zealand!

Loving the new [Alpha] works search and the various filters. I note this is changing daily and, obviously, not even at beta yet.

The ability to download all the data is awesome and has the potential to be the go-to tool for institutions like mine (a research-intensive university) to asses all sorts of things about our OA publication profile.

A couple of questions/thoughts:
1. How is "corresponding institution" sourced?
2. In future what would be amazing we could tailor the output we can download related to Works. For example, I know that APC data is harvested from the DOAJ and is a "Source" value in the database. I would love to be able to have that data associated in output with each work. In other words, we could see a list of Works but also analyse the "list price" of APCs for the journals those Works were published in. If there is a way to do this currenly with OpenAlex I haven't worked it out!

Hi Richard,

I believe this was meant for the OpenAlex user's group (https://groups.google.com/g/openalex-users) but I will go ahead and answer your questions!

1. The corresponding institutions are set based on the institutions that the corresponding authors are associated with, for that article. It doesn't really mean that the institution is for "correspondence", as that's intended for authors. We created that field so that users can easily filter to see works where their institution has corresponding authors. This sometimes allows the institution to access the article freely due to APC arrangements.

2. You're in luck because we already associated OpenAPC and DOAJ APC data with works. You can read about it here: https://docs.openalex.org/api-entities/works/work-object#apc_payment. We added it recently so it may still be propagating.

Thanks,
Casey

Gosh, you're right. I was in the wrong group. Thanks for your answer. I will cross-post it in the right place.
