Is there a "policy" or "recommendation"  for using or not using AI for responding to questions on the unmarked list?

If there isn't any restriction on using it, I'd like to suggest that at minimum any answers using AI should acknowledge where it was used in the response.

As one who is using it more frequently, one finds that the AI responses many times needs multiple iterations (i.e., telling the AI app that it got something wrong but eventually getting to a satisfactory answer).

Hi Jim,

We don't currently have an official policy. My opinion, which I have not spent too much time thinking about, is that it is OK to have AI contribute to a response, but not generate the entire response. And I agree that its contribution should be acknowledged.

So for example, I think it would be OK to use AI as a search tool to identify potential answers and perhaps generate example code, as long as you then check the answer/code for accuracy. But simply pasting the question in to an AI tool and then pasting the output directly into the list would be inappopriate, both due to risk of innacurate information and because you wouldn't be contributing anything that other listserv readers couldn't do themselves.

I'm happy to hear other perspectives.

While I haven't read through this pub yet it seems like the authors are taking a very useful approach.
Cheers
