I have not read Graeber's theories except in summary. The American Class Hierarchy, according to the video author, has two elite classes, the Establishment Elite (Ivy League and other Institutional Professionals) and the Counter Elite (Business Owners and Individual Professionals). As I recall he argues that the challenge to the Establishment Elite in this system comes from the Counter Elite, perhaps with political support from the lower and middle class, but not directly from the lower or middle class workers. The revolving door between government elite and Wall Street or Main Street elite business professions often involves people who went to Ivy League schools and suggests that there is both limited upward mobility and working synergy among the elite professions in the American class hierarchy. The stable political system under the rule of law, and the political elimination or reduction of progressive taxes on the super-wealthy, tends to increase both the federal debt and the wealth of the super-wealthy in the elite classes over time, compared to a counterfactual world with revolutions that confiscate wealth and/or redistribute wealth via progressive taxes and other public policies.
