Hi,

I run into a problem to define an operation filtering instances by their states (one or more) defined in their statemachine. Currently, I do not know any UML element that allows me to use as type of the parameter in this operation. As "workaround", the statemachine can be used as indirect reference, but I am sure this would not be not appropraite either. In addition, an another question also raised: how the state value should be referred.

Any help, guidence would be appreciated.

Regards,
Istvan

An operation invocation is a from of a call event.  If an instance cannot handle the invocation of a particular operation on itself in a particular state, you should be able to model a call event transition from that particular state and said transition will handle the error and then transition to some appropriate recovered state.
