Dear Ian,
Part 1 of this standard was used in the survey of TLOs.
[MW] I was the UK expert involved in developing Part 1.
I wasn't familiar with it even though it comes from ISO/IEC JTC1 SC32 WG2 whose work I keep half an eye on due to past involvement. I see that a Part 2 "Basic Formal Ontology" is undergoing final vote at the moment for adoption as an IS. Is anybody here involved with that work?
[MW] Only in the sense of keeping an eye on it. You have to be careful to understand that it is really standardised documentation (according to Part 1) of BFO, and not standardising the ontology it represents (unlike say ISO 15926, where the data model/ontology is standardised as well) so ISO/IEC JTC1 SC32 WG2 neither scrutinize or critique BFO itself. There are several other TLOs also publishing conformant parts. We intend to do that with the FDM TLO in due course and when the wrinkles have been ironed out of the process (BFO has had a pretty difficult time of it).
Regards
Matthew
