So, can someone contact Seotch/ASCII Media to relicense Ubunchu?

I've been noticing that Ubunchu has been stagnant for the last few months. There is a chance that Ubunchu is no longer profitable for ASCII Media, which means that Seotch might be able to request a copyright assignment back from ASCII, or at least a change of license to, for example, CC-By-SA. The problem is that we'd have to contact Seotch first, is that currently possible?

There is complexity with the Japanese copyright system. I believe ASCII
has full license control ultimately. But dear Seotch maintains some form
of control too.

We would love to have all the materials released and released under a
free culture license of course. But this depends on convincing both
parties.

For any past translation and editing work, each party must also consent
to their work being relicensed too. This is a headache that the NC terms
develop which I do not like.

I'm confused - do we need translations into English? I thought they were all
done.

Sorry if I'm not up to speed.

In any case, we can translate the Spanish 7 volume such trouble that I know
as much (the language and the volume 7).

And even Volume 8 pending.
Notice to teams of translators.
I have the Elements to do.

In romanji, here you can use

I would like to be in contact with the Spanish team for help.

Carlos may be interested?

Translate without publication, it's legal! right?
That is until all agreements, of course!

By personal conviction, I can't help a Creative Commons project unless it's under a free license, which is why I haven't been participating actively on the project. And even so, it's promoting an operating system that the FSF has good reasons not to endorse. I may or may not participate when the series is relicensed, but not earlier.

There are three chapters that are still not translated, and a fourth in the works: http://www.aerialline.com/comics/ubunchu Seotch-san's English blog is lagging behind by a few years. :)

So really, it's not Ubunchu that's stagnant, it's me being sloooow to get off my ass and produce the scripts. I blame real life.

I see the Aerialline site now says
2021年、個人事業を法人化し、株式会社 架空線を設立した。("In 2021, the sole proprietorship was incorporated and Fictitious Line Co., Ltd. was established. ")
And as I'm sure is known in these parts, the Asciimedia Ubuntu magazine was shut down in summer 2017.
Perhaps this spells good news for the project?

Hi, Sysy (I also received your SMS, thanks for keeping me up to date about Ubunchu!'s continued licensing status as CC-BY-NC 3): I was referring to Seotch-san's personal/professional site: https://aerialline.com/about, near the bottom.

Do you mean linking to the translations from existing articles, or creating new articles in languages that don't have one yet? I'd say both are good ideas, but the Russian Wikipedia article was deleted in 2019 and the English Wikipedia article speedily-deleted in 2009 due to lack of independent references. Guess we need to start mailing copies of the series to comics journalists ;P

Anyway, I have started contributing to coverage of the manga in Wikidata, which has a lower barrier to entry of information since it is parceled out into 'statements' (RDF triples): https://wikidata.org/wiki/Q4052315

Cheers,
-Arlo
