Joe Lycett, the Brit comic and TV presenter (and panelist on seemingly every comedy panel show), says that if David Beckham changes his mind and turns down the $11.7M the country of Qatar is offering him to be goodwill ambassador at the upcoming FIFA World Cup by the opening ceremonies Sunday, he will make a 10,000 GBP donation to UK gay charities (although the long list of human rights abuses by Qatar goes beyond LGBTQs).  If not, Lycett will destroy the 10,000 pounds sterling on a livestream Sunday--and yes, public destroying of money is illegal:

By comparison, amateur footballer in his younger years Rod Stewart turned down a $1M offer to be a spokesman for the tournament and singer Dua Lipa refused to perform in Qatar--the only celebrity they can get outside of Beckham to show up for the tourney, held in November instead of the usual summer dates because summers in Qatar are too damn hot, is a member of the K-poppers BTS (they're so dreamy).

He's only got one way out (admit he's a d!ck and donate the funds anyway). If the money that's shredded on camera is phony to begin with, he'll also be charged with counterfeiting.

For the record he did indeed "shred" the money... Except he didn't.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-63703831

He streamed himself appearing to shred the cash yesterday in a live video. But in fact, the money was given to charity before he even sent his first Tweet as he explains in a follow up video published today.

He did however, shred Beckham's front cover from Attitude magazine a few years back. It's a gay lifestyle magazine, and he asked the title's permission to shred the cover!

For those who don't know, as well as his comedy panel show appearances, Lycett has also a comedy/consumer affairs show, where stunts are part of it. E.g. changing his name by deed poll to Hugo Boss when the perfume company was throwing its weight around others using the word "Boss".

Adam (who is not currently watching England demolish Iran on TV, and definitely won't be bothering with Save Our Squad on Disney+)
