The Writers Guild says that ITV America, the producers of ABC's version of the hit UK quizzer (which is produced by and seen in the UK on ITV), refuses to agree to the guild's Minimum Basic Agreement regarding health care and residuals for the show's writers, similar to WGA contracts with "Jeopardy!" and the U.S. "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire":

ITV says that the agreement will "economically cripple the show."  It seems to me that the copyright for the show is in the name of the Disney-ABC subsid Greengrass Productions, so wouldn't ABC also be involved?

ITV Studios seems to have a bit of history of not working with the WGA - specifically WGA East on some of their US reality shows back in 2015/16.

I'm guessing the show was already "economically crippled" because of the ridiculously inflated prize money, and what I suspect (based on exactly no information) they're paying the Chasers.

I was surprised that the first season only went 9 shows. I was thinking about tweaks for a second season and one would be to have only a single chaser. If I had to choose among the three I'd say Holzhauer has the best personality for it. But since it now looks like there won't be a second season that's moot.

In the UK and Australia "The Chase" is a Monday-through-Friday show with prime time celebrity editions and recently a prime time "Beat the Chasers" mini-series (where the contestant can go up against the whole gang at once).  There are six chasers on both versions (the UK version has added a seventh chaser due to one of them needing surgery).  Two chasers are on both versions (Mark "The Beast" Labbett and Anne "The Governess/Frosty Knickers" Hegerty).  They haven't been doing the Australian version this past season due to COVID restrictions.  The first American version on Game Show Network had just Labbett and I believe was originally just once a week, so it's possible, but ABC wanted the GOATs all together.
