Talking with Ellen, he blamed the need for it on a recurrence of symptoms he'd had after an injury on stage years ago in NY... "I used to do this bit in the play where I'd hit myself in the head with a trashcan lid and one night during the play I injured my eye."  The sitch is bad enough to put any future Carpool Karaokes on hold...
