I’ve heard a number of podcasts already featuring guests who aren’t directly promoting a new upcoming project featuring them, but the host always manages to make mention of it during the interview.

Marc Maron said the strike guidelines said he could air any interviews completed before the strike began on July 13. So he’s adding the recording date to current episodes and after he depletes his finished interviews he won’t be promoting studio products until the strike ends.
