To set this up: Literally the last time I *know* I watched an SNL live would've been the December 20, 1986 episode. I'm sure it's happened since then, but I have not the recollection of it, and that includes Adele's last appearance in 2015.

Two questions and a statement for the panel:

1. I admit fully I'm in the bag for her, but that seemed like a rather...mediocre...episode. The Bachelor skit, which I thought worked best, didn't have nearly the laughs I thought it earned, but c'mon: if you can't get the 19-21-25 reference, I can't freaking help you. So that leads to my question: I know the audience is smaller, especially on the floor, but could it be that smaller audience means jokes that land didn't?

2. I don't care if watching her break was worth it: I don't think a post-Weekend Update slot was worth making sex tourism jokes, and it looks like a bunch of other people didn't think so, either. https://www.cnn.com/2020/10/26/entertainment/snl-africa-sketch-adele-controversy-intl-scli/index.html

2a. I enjoy Kate McKinnon, but I also understand now why Sikula wants her shot into the sun.

Overall I didn’t have any particular problems with the episode, it was as funny or not as most. I have never seen the Bachelor, and never really get what is supposed to be funny about the recurring sketch, but I LOVED it this week, solely because they used it to do what I was so hoping they would find some way to do, which create a an excuse for an Adele jukebox. That’s all I wanted. Sure, I am eager to hear the new album, but no rush if she doesn’t feel it’s ready. But not only is it a thrill to hear and see her sing her classics (effortlessly, take that those who said skinny Adele would not be as good a singer), but it is a thrill to imagine the cast and crew on the stage, who must have been saying to themselves: “Jesus Christ, that’s Adele right there singing her songs!”

I Didn’t need anything else to make that a stand out episode (and also, did not get much else).

I have watched about five YouTube clips and generally liked what I saw. I liked the grandmother sketch best. The bachelor sketch seemed fine. I got the sense they cut a lot out of the fortune teller sketch.
I liked H.E.R. enough to check out some of her other music.

It was no more terrible than any other episode this season, so it was a push.

One correction on McKinnon. Shooting her into the sun would be far too generous. Trapping her in a room for all eternity with Wiig would be more appropriate.

I regret the error.
