Meanwhile, both East New York and True Lies were canceled after one season. 

Streaming rights were an issue for East New York - CBS wanted them beyond the current season, Warner Bros. wouldn't give them up. And since SWAT and ENY were basically competing for the same slot, SWAT's return came at ENY's expense.

I liked East New York, but it was doomed to fail, as the focus wasn’t on the procedural crime-solving aspects but instead on the characters and lives of the police officers. It reminded me of Bochco’s Brooklyn South, which also only lasted one year at the Tiffany network.
