I was thinking- We watched ABC shows back then- we almost agreed on everything then- with exceptions being daytime game shows on NBC, and maybe a few others.

nope.    We had the 3 US nets, plus the 3 Canadian ones (CBC, CTV, Global) in early 80's.

Although I do remember a cousin visiting once and saying "ABC is the best," but I do not recall their justification.

My personal preferences in early 80's was NBC and CBS, but that's because we didn't get ABC on cable in my city until later.

For newscasts we often watched CBC.

Until cable came along in the 80s, my folks weren't particular... it was mostly a case of what they wouldn't watch (sitcoms, mostly)

I had one extended family member, say that while she watched The Doctors(soap opera) and Another World on NBC, she watched Cronkite for the news.  I believe it was because Frank McGee declared during a broadcast that Vietnam was being lost- that made that family upset enough to watch Cronkite. These days, for news in our household, it's ABC.

My grandmother was an NBC girl in the 60s- Not just with Chet and David, but the NBC daytime dramas then,  "Days of our Lives," "The Doctors" and "Another World."  And the space coverage in that era- she preferred Frank McGee over Cronkite.

But i was an ABC watcher, their sports coverage, Peter Jennings, shows like "China Beach," "Life Goes On," "Twin Peaks," and "Homefront" were considered some of the best quality shows on the air.
