He produced songs for “The Electric Company”, but he was an accomplished musical satirist (or satirical musician) who heavily influenced my childhood sense of humor. I cannot praise him enough.

Apropos of nothing, both the BBC and NYT obits for Lehrer misspell Weird Al Yankovic's name.  They manage to misspell it differently from each other, so there's that.

Apparently Al asked the Times to remove his name.  He likely wouldn't bother to contact the Beeb...     B

I managed to confuse the NYT obit with the PBS obit.  I regret the error.

As for whether Al Yankovic contacted the Times, I don't know.

I spent much of last night explaining to younger friends in their 30s and 40s who Tom Lehrer was. Not complaining, as it gave me an excuse to post YouTube clicks and talk about what he meant to me.

I did a production of "The MAD Show" (which, if you're not familiar with it, was exactly what it sounds like) when I was 9, and our director decided to spice things up by adding some Tom Lehrer songs - particularly "Poisoning Piegons in the Park", so I was introduced to his work far earlier than I should have been.  RIP Mr. Lehrer.

FYI, pretty much his entire catalog is available for listening online: https://tomlehrersongs.com
