This is different from the Prime Video case from earlier this month (link)... it settles a 2023 Federal Trade Commission action "alleging that it had enrolled millions of consumers in Prime subscriptions without their consent and then made the subscriptions exceedingly difficult to cancel"... "investigators found documents indicating that Amazon executives and employees knew about issues with the Prime enrollment and cancellation process, citing comments such as 'subscription driving is a bit of a shady world' and leading consumers to unwanted subscriptions is 'an unspoken cancer'"... they'll cough up $1B in civil penalties and form a $1.5B pool to pay affected customers, most of which will have to file claims:
