In what they say was a general agreement among the member public broadcasting organizations, the European Broadcasting Union has ruled that Israel will still participate in the Eurovision song contest next year despite protests over the country's actions in Gaza, despite no formal vote of the members--Ireland, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Spain have announced that they will not participate in Eurovision next year--Spain's RTVE and six other countries called for a secret ballot and were turned down, RTVE is not participating but will still televise the finals:
In 2024, the Israeli contestant was quarantined to her hotel room when not performing due to threats on her life. Last year, Israel was accused of overpromotion and ballot box stuffing for their entry, which won the viewer vote but was defeated by the votes of industry juries in each country. The EBU says that new rules have been put into effect regarding these matters.
