I wouldn't trust the Daily Mail on this. Actually, I wouldn't trust them on anything.

Plus those kinds of articles can be written about anything. If you want to find people who didn't like last night's episode of <INSERT NAME HERE> you will find them. But if you search,  you'll probably also find people who loved it!

Anybody who wants to link to a Daily Mail story should post a trigger warning.

I thought the story was going to be about a reporter getting into a watch party and talking to disappointed fans. It was worse: the "story" was just a reporter reading fan tweets and embedding them. I could have tweeted that I was disappointed in the Friends reunion because they didn't hold it at my house and cook me dinner. It's as meaningful as the other fan criticism.

Apologies. 'Twould be easier for me to simply block the Mail site.  #motivation

It’s not a Friends reunion without the monkey

I am in a demo that inevitably wonders what all the fuss is about Friends. When it was first on I thought if it as a wannabe Seinfeld for a younger generation, and I found the characters attractive and nice but not interesting.  Seem to remember watching Ellen instead of Friends, but not sure if they really were on in the same slot.

A few years ago I did a complete rewatch in sequence (had only seen them sporadically before), and liked it a little more, but still think of it in the B Level of sitcoms (maybe with How I Met Your Mother).

Looking at Wikipedia schedules, ABC mostly showed Ellen on Wednesdays, and it's not listed at all for Thursday.

If this ("5,000kg") is the answer, what is the question?

Is it, "How much does James Corden's ego weigh"?

James may becoming less egocentric, because he is doing ads for MyWW. It's the digital Weight Watchers program.

The Washington Post finally mentioned the "shocking revelation" that had been previously embargoed. It set a new low bar for shocking revelations, IMHO.

You don't have to make any changes. The Daily has, at best, limited credibility so if you want to share a story with a torrid headline, just put it as "Daily Mail says..."

I know better than to click the link.

I used to have a browser extension that blocked all Daily Mail sites at source. If I inadvertently clicked on a link - perhaps shared in social media with the real link "hidden" from view - it would just take you to a random GIF of a cat instead. One of my Daily Mail-hating work colleagues absolutely loved it!

So I watched it with my beloved and a dear friend. They both liked it. I was rather meh. My friend had never heard of Corden and kept asking me "Why does he keep talking like that? Is that a bit?" and I had to tell her that sadly, no, it was not.

It could've been so much better (besides way less Corden). The hodgepodge nature of the program, jumping from thing to thing, drove me nuts. The random nature of the celebrities was pointless. I think it's telling they didn't bring back Aisha Tyler, Jane Sibbert, or Jessica Hecht (i.e. The Black Girlfriend and The Lesbians). The show has started aging rapidly in the last few years: reminding us how very, very white and straight it was doesn't help.

I also watched it, pretty much agree with Joe, though in my case it amounts to liking it more than I thought. I thought most effective parts were when the old cast did script readings and then they cut back and forth to the original. They really didn’t need a moderator at all, as the other effective parts were when the cast reflected on being on the set, and the show. Could have just had an off camera moderator feeding them questions.

Definitely shocked they did not spend significant time discussing both why the show has continued popularity, but also how dated show seems in terms of ethnic representation and recurrent homophobic and trans jokes. That was a missed opportunity.

Do you have any information to confirm that those three women weren't invited to participate? Is there any possibility any or all of them chose not to?

Not sure what credibility this source has, but the substance fits; producers basically say they didn’t have time for everyone (e.g. also no Paul Rudd) and pandemic and other schedule limitations played a role.

I suspect if any of the actors who played black or lesbian characters had been invited and declined, that somehow would have made its way into the common information stream. Most likely, the producers wanted this to be only a feel good moment, and not bring up anything that could be a downer.

As I say, short sighted. If they just acknowledge the limitations, and that the show would obviously be different if made today, it might make it easier for a new generation of fans to watch today.
