It was pretty much as expected. Jay and Kevin come out and sit down. Jay tells a joke and then a short bit. On the show I watched it was Headlines. Then two contestants come out and try to answer some questions. Some banter, and then two more contestants. The amounts awarded were small for current game shows and that kept the stakes low.

There was nothing to show that they are paying homage to earlier versions. They built the show around Leno's Tonight Show persona. The show moves quickly. If you liked Leno's Tonight Show and want to see more of that kind of comedy here's your chance.

It happens that Tubi, the free streamer owned by Fox (who syndicates the Big Jaw version through its Fox First Run), has some Groucho episodes available.  Since the series is in public domain, it's not the "Best of Groucho" syndication cuts but the original network version with the sponsor logos and NBC on Groucho's mike uncovered and the original commercials.

So if/when the secret word is said, just light and sound effects with crowd applause?    B

Exactly. The secret words are fairly simple and when Leno kibitzes with contestants he feeds them prompts so someone will say it. It's a way to make sure everybody goes home with some money,

Since Mark mentioned that the Groucho version is on Tubi that's usually a sign that the show is in public domain. I did a search on the Internet Archive and they have lots of episodes, both radio and TV, available.

It's been renewed, along with other post-breakup-Fox-syndie products 25 Words or Less, Dish Nation and Divorce Court. (I could have sworn that the latter went to The Mouse in the deal, but not only did it stay, it signed "Judge Faith." Wow.)

Kind of a shock to me that it was renewed.

Anyone seen "25 Words or Less"? It's a decent game, but they don't give away much money, and it's hard to get excited about a game when the stakes are so low.

Disney sold "Divorce Court" and "Dish Nation" back to Fox in the transition.  (Fox acquired the "Divorce" format in acquiring the New World stations that were mostly in NFL cities, which had been the Storer stations, where the format originated way back in the 60s.  "Dish Nation," the compilation of clips from wacky morning radio zoos [although I understand now that Sherri Shepherd is hosting the show], is Fox Television Stations' creation.  To quote Bob Eubanks, whoopee.)
