I fear the hype has exceeded the quality of the content, but I basically reached that conclusion during the season three two-parter about menstruation. It is still very much hit and miss in terms of production value and writing. But it is essentially fan-fiction, and as such you have to adjust your expectations accordingly.

As a side note, last Christmas I purchased 1953’s “The Ten Commandments” on the iTunes Store. Hadn’t seen it in years, maybe decades. The Chosen is more watchable.

De Mille has to be appreciated on his own terms. He has a singular style like Fincher and Nolan do today. In a De Mille spectacular enjoy the wildly imaginative set designs and costumes with the eye popping technicolor cinematography and lower your expectations of the acting and story.
