He told FiveThirtyEight staff on Slack "unfortunately the day we've been worried about has arrived... We don’t yet know the scope of these layoffs, exactly who is impacted, or the terms under which they are departing, but it is going to be a hard day for all of us,”
538 is not going away, but presumably will be streamlined and more efficient...
The Bristol Bunch was decimated, with the cuts led by VP/communications Mike Soltys and EVP/GM Russell Wolff...

I’ll just point out that while Disney says that 538 isn’t going away, all of the people who built it up with Silver got laid off too so all that’s left is the brand name.

I’ll point out that Silver and his people sullied their own brand when they shifted from their original model of collecting as much polling and sampling data as possible to only curating polls and sampling that supported Silver’s increasingly distorted take on society and culture. In the end, Silver was making bombastic claims with no supporting data. Only difference between he and the MyPillow guy are the pillows.

I will admit to not having kept up. I know that when they started doing poll aggregation on 538 it was an innovation and gave accurate results. In recent years a lot of poll aggregators have come along and 538 had to go elsewhere to generate their value.

I think we have had this argument before, so I will just not that I mostly disagree, and still respect Nate and what he does. Few if any does what he does better. He lost his way a bit when he strayed into public health issues during the pandemic, true. But his bread and butter, sports and politics, have remained strong.
