William Cohen from Puck News (whose fascinating book on GE I recently finished) thinks this opens the door to the coupling of NBCU and Warner’s Discovery that he has been predicting for a while now. Of course Zas was at NBC from 1989-2006.

“Call me crazy, but to my way of thinking, Shell’s sudden departure makes it all the more likely—inevitable?—that the idea I’ve been harping on for a while here, the combination of David Zazlav’s Warner Bros. Discovery with NBCU, will happen. To be clear, the two companies won’t merge anytime soon. The reverse Morris Trust rules require two years to pass before WBD can sign a deal. But that’s only one year from now, and given how long it can take these deals to be negotiated and papered up, the departure of Shell might as well be considered the kick off to the process.”

I’m not saying it can’t happen, but Warner and Universal merging would be like Marvel and DC merging.

Deadline is reporting the woman is CNBC Anchor and Senior International Correspondent Hadley Gamble, according to the Wikis the last Western Journalist to interview Putin before the invasion of Ukraine. Matt Belloni writes she was once “accused by Russian state media of being a ‘sex object’ sent to distract Putin.”

I guess it did not end well, as the report is Gamble is the one who filed the complaint.

“Deadline has learned that Shell had a relationship with Gamble which started about 11 years ago and continued sporadically up until a couple of years ago when it ended. Shell was chairman of NBCUniversal International from 2011 to 2013 before becoming chairman, Universal Filmed Entertainment and eventually NBCU CEO in 2020.”

Gamble has been cut, but not without compensation...

Katie Couric, on a Kelly Ripa podcast (thanks, we were wondering if...), rips Shell for being, among other things, "reckless"...
