I recall when NYPD Blue had to get rid of David Caruso, and the end result was the shift of Dennis Franz from supporting to leading actor.

Kelly Reilly had to step up to leading actor on Yellowstone. I don’t know if her name was at the top of the call sheet, but her character instantly became the center of the series. She proved she was more than up to the challenge.

Two notes about Taylor Sheridan:

1. There was a time when HBO and Showtime were starting to get into scripted series, and showrunners were encouraged (and in at least two examples I’m aware of, they were forced) to include gratuitous nudity, sex, and violence in the shows. Somebody should explain to Sheridan that it isn’t the 1990s anymore, and he doesn’t get paid by the amount of f-bombs in the script. I’m not against swearing, but his shows are, indeed, gratuitous.

2. Putting yourself in your own show as the character of the manliest badass who ever rode a horse is just silly. Imagine if Aaron Sorkin had given himself the role of the President in West Wing… that’s how preposterous it is. Sheridan must be insufferable to be around.

At least Sheridan looked a little like a cowboy.

Sorkin hardly looks Presidential. Enough people, seeing him, might think of Dan Quayle, and that's... not good.
