The ceremonies from Barclays Center in Brooklyn will be telecast live on the streamer after several years of a highlights package aired months after the event on HBO--that package ill air on New Year's Day on ABC:

Yeah, I know about Peter Jackson's Beatles doc "Get Back," the live Elton John concert from Dodger Stadium and the Billie Eilish concert doc, but rock and roll and Disney don't really jibe--are Mickey and Minnie going to be among the presenters?

The same was said about Disney and sports when they acquired ESPN. Ultimately, all streaming services want to be all things to all people. At the moment, none of them are known for music. But you mentioned a few Disney offerings, so they are making an effort.

But, as I learned in my years in Hollywood, music on television is typically low rated. It is why MTV was never going to an entirely music-centered network. I worked on the Arista Records anniversary show. If a musician or singer was alive and had a history with Clive Davis, they performed on that show. The lineup was absolutely incredible. The performances were breathtaking. And, as the executive producer predicted ahead of time, nobody watched.

Sadly the only long term success stories in televised music are the competition shows where the music itself takes a backseat to the judging and the human interest stories involving the contestants.
