Like most entertainment media (online and off-), they require the "reporters"* to self-edit. Same with syndicated cartoonists, I gather, based on what I see every day. 

*if you "report" on a viral video by linking to the video and doing nothing else but describing what happens in the video, well, I guess it counts for your daily quota

They've definitely become what Jeff Jarvis didn't want when he started the mag in 1990 as a mag that would call BS on the entertainment industry if needed and promote the unknown and little-watched.  I stuck with them, but I won't miss getting the mag anymore.
