The Depp/Heard case is a civil action; even if either or both are guilty of crimes, they won't necessarily be imprisoned for them, there'll just be another trial. It is a "seven-layer dip of insanity," in part because the judge opened it to media coverage, which she could very well have declined. Court TV used to be a cable channel you'd likely have to upgrade to the next-higher tier to watch, but today it's a sidechannel of over-the-air local stations, thanks a lot, Scripps...

It doesn't help that Depp's fans are convinced that Heard is crazy just because IT'S JOHNNY! and have gone to misogynistic extremes to defend their idol.

I haven’t followed the trial to any extent beyond what I see my wife watching of it, but I can tell based on that little that the judge should be removed from the bench merely for allowing the presence of cameras in the courtroom. As indicated, this is a civil case, and not even a very compelling one aside from the notoriety of the people involved.

It's all over: Depp (he was in Europe, where he's performing with Jeff Beck) was awarded $15mil, Heard $2mil.

I'll just say it - I think "seven-layer dip of insanity" is an apt goddamn metaphor for this whole sideshow.

I think the lawyers made out well. Heard's lawyers looked klutzy at times but they were paid with insurance money so they're rolling in dough.
