There is a legendary story about Target involving a customer who came into a store furious that his daughter received personalized coupons that were targeted towards a pregnant woman, only to have the guy return weeks later to apologize because his daughter actually *was* pregnant.

Never question the algorithm.

I’m not an algorithm, as far as you know, but when I worked at Bed Bath & Beyond, I was able to predict at least three pregnancies of customers and one coworker.

Her preferences wouldn’t have changed just because she came out. She was probably choosing to watch shows and movies with a queer sensibility without being conscious of it and Netflix was able to connect the dots before she did.
