According to what I've seen from a reliable TV writer source on Twitter, BBC1 is in news coverage mode and has been all day.  BBC2 was carrying the BBC1 schedule since this afternoon, but after "Pointless" at 5:15 p.m. and an hour of what we call track and field and they call "athletics" highlights at 6 p.m. is now simulcasting BBC1.  I'm assuming that BBC World News is in on the simulcast and I confirmed that ITV is in coverage mode (ITV2 is in normal programming, which right now is "Bob's Burgers").  Channel 4 went into coverage mode after "The Simpsons" at 6:30 p.m.  Channel 5 is running a documentary on HM the Queen now, but will go back to normal programming at the top of the hour (and did run "Home and Away" as normal).

In the states, I assume that Fox is letting the affiliates pick up FNC if they wish--WFLD and WPWR in Chicago are sticking to regular programming--the programme that is called in the UK "Family Fortunes" on the former and some low-end court show on the latter.

I know levity isn't the most appropriate thing right now, but:
A) Between the .com URL and the oddly spaced (revamped?) BBC logo, I thought this was going to be a link to a parody site, and
B) Because of  (A), I assumed I'd be hearing "See Ya Later, Alligator" or "Yakkity Sax"

Multiple news outlets streaming coverage of the death of the Queen have titled or tagged their coverage with the words “Live update.” I’m a terrible person, too, because that makes me laugh.

The BBC revamped their logo earlier this year.  BBC America's logo is reflecting it, although everything else is bog standard AMC Networks (who actually run the channel), including the credits zoomed down to the lower right hand corner where you can't read them.

And a few minutes ago over the final scene of that well-known British series "Star Trek:  TNG," a crawl came on saying "Buckingham Palace has made a special announcement.  Details on BBC World News or bbc.com."  Similar to what ran on CBBC and maybe Ceebeebies in the UK earlier today.  Don't want to shock the children.

PS:  Right now on BBCA is that well-known British film "Office Space."  I don't see Ricky Gervais anywhere.

All BBC radio stations are (or were as of an hour ago) on special coverage.

BBC World has been on live coverage since the “concern for her health” announcement this morning, including riveting coverage of a plane landing at Aberdeen airport.

The live coverage on the BBC website actually announced the death and then took a pause so the coverage could break into regular programming and make the formal announcement with the national anthem.

Remember a few weeks ago when CTV dropped the grey haired, female, Lisa Laflamme from their flagship newscast?

Well competitor Rogers will have her in UK to cover the funeral for City-TV , a Rogers brand.

Nice scoop by Rogers.

Today:“Eastenders” will move its preempted Thursday episode to BBC2 tonight, while tonight’s ITV soaps and “Home & Away” on 5 will remain postponed. But more importantly, in the 5:00 hour – “Moneybags” and “Pointless” (moved to BBC2) won’t have “The Chase” to kick around today.

From yesterday: Like me, Colbert must have taken an early weekend from work this week; a title card noted that last night’s show was filmed before word of QE2’s death.

"Could easily have been"? You misspelled "most definitely were."

Another thing, not a biggie: at the end of Tuesday's show, the billboard for Wednesday's guests showed Reynolds and McElhenney, whose segment got held a day.

Media Matters is not a site I typically frequent, but they did point out that the big networks all covered the statement from another country’s king but wouldn’t cover our own president’s speech a week earlier.

With English republicans rallying on Twitter about the weeping-and-gnashing-of-teeth smotherage via #MournHub, ITV will simulcast funeral coverage (6a-12m) on all its digital channels (*2, *3, *4, *Be, and C*).

Weird that CITV is going to simulcast, considering that on this kind of news it's always been that you don't put it on the kids' channels, going back to 9/11.  When the Queen died, the BBC kids channels just did the "please tune to BBC ONE for important news" graphic between programs (I guess just CBBC, Ceebeebies had signed off--uh, "closed down"--for the day).

I would love to see the kids news show "NewsRound" treated the Queen's death, or if they just continued on their usual "Entertainment Tonight" for kids path (back in the John Craven days in the 70s, it was much more like Linda Ellerbee's Nickelodeon shows in tone than the current version).

Not sure about ITV's reasoning for simulcasting the funeral on CITV - the BBC's kids channels, CBeebies (pre-school) and CBBC are both running as normal. These days of course, many kids will avoid coverage by going onto YouTube, Netflix, Disney+ and so on...

You can see how Newsround (the BBC's long running kids TV news show) covered the announcement here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wROiHAeNl_I

I still remember hearing about the Challenger disaster on Newsround back in 1986, since the timings of the launch meant that the explosion happened right in the middle of the kids block of programming on BBC1. There's a VHS copy of it on YouTube too. And yes, that's Philip Schofield in the "broom cupboard" who today presents This Morning on ITV - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb0G8Q5Oz_k

They didn't pull many punches and showed the explosion up front at the start of the bulletin!

In the US around 3 million school children saw it live (2.5 million on a special satellite feed from NASA into classrooms). I have been trying to find credible studies of the short and long term mental health consequences, if any, on children exposed to that trauma. So far I have only located a single study, by psychiatrist Lenore Terr, whose work I am very familiar with, and do not judge to be credible. However, even in her study (I would say she tends to dramatically exaggerate trauma symptoms), it seems like she found some mild to moderate trauma symptoms in the short term (3-6 months), and much fewer in the longer term.

I suspect most parents would like to be able to make their own decisions about what their children should be exposed to, but: A) I think it is unlikely either News of the Queen’s death, or coverage of her funeral, is likely to cause much negative psychological consequence in children and B) if you have reason to believe it might for your children, maybe don’t let them watch the news or social media right now.

Of course I am culturally dissociated from what the impact of QE2’s death would be in British children, but I have trouble believing it would be much more impactful than the death of a loving grandmother, and I don’t think we generally advise parents to keep children away from their grandparent’s funerals.

Over the weekend I got a news alert that the King was giving a speech so I decided to tune in. Turned out he received an overly long introduction, then he basically said “Thanks for your support” in an address that made the Gettysburg Address seem wordy. I’m not even British but I felt ripped off.
