Other than Joan Rivers, Stephanie Miller, Chelsea Handler, Samantha Bee, countless hosts of Later after Kinnear departed...
People keep acting like a female host has never been tried. I’d like for there to be a variety of voices hosting talk shows (anyone not named Jimmy would be a refreshing start). Problem is at this point talk show hosts are Judas Goats being led down the slaughter shoot, and those who might be good at the job (including several women) are reluctant to want to deal with the day-in day-out chore of dealing with network brass, itchy advertisers, fickle viewers, and a ratings system woefully out of step with modern society and technology.
Rosie O’Donnell reshaped daytime talk shows and indirectly influenced the style of nighttime talk as well. Ellen Degeneres continued where Rosie left off. Then there’s the cackling cacophony better known as The View. The problem of talk shows has nothing to do with a lack of women; even behind the scenes many of the big talk shows are either directed by or produced by women, and there are more female writers on staff than I can remember (except for Bill Maher’s show, from what I can glean).
I wish the YouTube girl well, not that she needs it; as Carson Daly proved, audiences at that hour who don’t/can’t stream or DVR content don’t have many choices.
