I have been following and been distressed by the Rushdie story since it happened. But I’m not sure I see the most important implications being how it affects either Bill Maher or Piers Morgan.

Also not sure “Manic” is the worst thing about either of these two, or that they avoided being dicks even when discussing this terrible attack.

A more interesting (though perhaps less TV) sidebar for my money is how an AP reporter happened to be on the relatively remote spot to cover the story as it happened:

As I’ve said elsewhere on the interwebs, I greatly dislike Rushdie both in his writing style and as a person, but my chosen reaction to him is to neither read his work nor listen to him speak. Hundreds of millions of people ignore him every day… it’s free and easy. No need to react violently towards him… he’s just not worth paying that much attention to. I don’t wish him physical harm for any reason, but especially because the so called new-atheists don’t need or deserve a martyr.
